A Familiar Face: From Freddie's Kitchen

Many of our visitors will recognize Chef Freddie, the talented chef behind the unforgettable meals served to our visiting medical teams, students, and guests of our Malawi campus. Today, Freddie invites returning visitor Amy into his kitchen to cook, connect, and reflect.

Welcome to From Freddie’s Kitchen—where every meal comes with a story. In this video, they prepare homemade samosa wraps while sharing laughter, language, and heartfelt reflections on community, impact, and the joy of being part of something greater than yourself.

A Harvest of Hope

Despite inadequate rains this year, CLI’s agriculture team has successfully harvested over 220 50kg bags of maize—enough to help feed patients, staff, and the most vulnerable families in our local community.

However, with local harvests being weak across Malawi, food insecurity remains a serious challenge. Many families will need extra support just to get by. Our maize harvest is a blessing, but it will not be enough to meet the growing need.

Another Life Saved in Our NICU

On August 18th, 22-year-old Femia Goodwell from Msundwe village gave birth to her first child, a baby boy named Gift, at CLI Hospital through C-section. Shortly after birth, Gift faced a serious risk of infection and was admitted into our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for specialized care. For four days, Gift was given antibiotic treatment. His mother shared:

“May God continue blessing CLI and its donors for saving the life of my first baby. At first, my baby was so weak and could not drink milk, but during the days I have been here, I see a huge change. He is so strong and active now, and can feed without any problem.”

According to NICU Nurse Francis Mvula, Gift is now thriving: “He is able to feed through the cup and breastfeed, and is very active. All thanks to CLI donors for providing the much-needed interventions and equipment that makes this possible.”

Because of your support, babies like Gift receive lifesaving care every single day.

Employee Spotlight: 30 Years of Dedication

This month we are thrilled to celebrate a very special milestone for one of our longtime team members. Our Zimbabwe Director of Operations, Maria Chikwiro celebrated her 50th birthday, but also her 30th year with Child Legacy International—first as a student, and later as a committed staff member.

Maria shared:

“I am truly grateful to be part of such an incredible organization that Jeff and Karen established out of love and passion to assist the less privileged. I promise to continue committed to this mission with hard work and loyal dedication.”

With a heart full of gratitude, she also shared a note of thanks:
