Ringing in the New Year...

Welcome to the first issue of Flex-Staff's Temptation newsletter for 2014.

We appreciate all of the positive feedback we've received on the new format of our newsletter and the content we provide. We look forward to continuing to bring you a variety of useful, humorous, and thought-provoking information throughout 2014.

We'd also like to congratulate all of the winners of our 1973-themed Temptation Trivia contest we held in 2013 for our 40th anniversary.  We will be continuing our monthly trivia contests in 2014 and we encourage all of our readers to play.  There were months where more than one branch had no winner, so if you think you know the answers, don't hesitate to call!

Temptation Trivia

Tremendously popular with children of all ages today, this product got its start when an employee of a soap manufacturing company discovered that their wallpaper cleaner was being used by school children to make Christmas ornaments.

Name this popular product, and the name of the company that originally produced it.

If you know the answer, call your local branch office.  The first person in each market to call with the correct answer will get treats delivered!

Last issue answer: The band Kiss played their first concert in 1973 for a crowd of 3. The two founding member, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley were originally in the band "Wicked Lester".

Fun Facts

Founded in Wichita, Kansas in 1921, White Castle is credited as being the first "fast food" chain.

The burgers originally sold for 5 cents each, but occasionally White Castle would run promotions offering 5 burgers for 10 cents.

Co-founder Walt Anderson is credited with the invention of the hamburger bun, the fast food paper hat, and the kitchen "assembly line" process, which gave rise to the fast food phenomenon.

Affordable Care Act Wait and See...
2014 is finally here and most aspects of the Affordable Care Act are now fully implemented, including the "individual mandate."

Despite the threat of the penalty/tax, signups for individual health insurance policies through state and federal exchanges remain well below expectations, and public support for the Act has dropped significantly in recent months, due in part to the rocky roll out of the healthcare.gov website.

According to a recent CNN poll of adult Americans, only 35% of respondents indicated that they were in favor of the Affordable Care Act, while 62% indicated that they were opposed to it.  The highest opposition percentage in two and a half years of polling. Among those polled, 63% of respondents felt that the cost of their health insurance will likely increase because of the affordable care act.

This seems to echo a recent survey of more than 3000 physicians by Jackson & Coker, a staffing service specializing in the placement of Physicians, in which 80% of respondents felt that patients will have to pay more for their healthcare because of the Affordable Care Act.  Even more concerning is the fact that 60% felt that the quality of patient care will be negatively impacted, and 51% felt that access to patient care will be negatively impacted. Only 31% felt that access to patient care will be positively impacted by the ACA.

While many individuals that were previously uninsured (or uninsurable) are celebrating the Affordable Care Act, employers, insurance companies, and Doctors are still waiting to see what the full impact of the Act will be on their business and the economy.
One Minute Ideas
A Few Steps Ahead...

The easiest way to solve a problem is to start working on it early.  The longer you wait, the more costly and difficult it becomes to deal with the situation.

Procrastination always seems, at the time, to be the easy way out.  And it never is.

With things that are out of your control, be patient.  With things that are under your control, take action.

The sooner you take action, the more effectively that will bring results.  To make the most efficient use of your time, deal with the small problems before they become big ones, and deal with the big problems before they become overwhelming.

Having to play catch up can waste a great deal of your time and effort.  So choose not to put yourself in that position.

Instead, get a few steps ahead of what must be done.  You'll find you're able to do much more!
