Flexible learning program at BHS launches this fall

At the June 20 Barrington 220 Board of Education meeting, the Board heard an update on an optional flexible learning program that will be implemented at Barrington High School for the start of the 2023-24 school year.

The optional program is for incoming seniors only and will allow students to expand their learning through flexible, project-based learning options and field experiences during the school day. The program specifically aligns with two of the district's strategic priorities, Personalized Learning and Future Readiness, which were identified by stakeholders during the Framework 220 strategic planning process.

The high school is currently renovating an area on the west side of the building that was formerly the senior locker bank, in order to create a dedicated flexible learning space for the program. This summer the high school will reach out to families who have expressed interest in the program, in order to provide an update on next steps. If you have questions, please contact Principal Steve McWilliams.

Board approves new Assistant Principal at Station

At the June 20 Board meeting, the Board approved Jessica Buchanan as the new Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Student Services at BMS-Station Campus. Buchanan has worked at Station for the past 14 years as a Special Education Teacher. She holds a bachelor's degree and a Learning Behavior Specialist 1 certificate from Northern Illinois University. She also holds a master's degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education. She will begin in her new role in August.

Agreement with Village of Barrington for fuel purchases

At the June 20 Board meeting, the Board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Barrington that allows the district to use the village fueling station. As part of the Build 220 construction taking place at BHS this summer, the above-ground fuel storage tank at the high school is being removed. It has served as the primary source of fuel for district vehicles operated by the Buildings & Grounds team. Thanks to this partnership with the village, the district will not have to purchase a new pump.
