Flight Restrictions 01/16/2026 Update

Hi Neighbors!

A quick update before we start the MLK weekend on the year-round flight restrictions at Palm Beach International Airport (PBIA) implemented by the FAA on October 20th, following an order from the U.S. Secret Service. This is the 6th newsletter update. You can find previous ones here, here, here, here and here.

Update on litigation

We asked the county attorney for an update on the litigation. Here’s the latest:

Regarding the TFR case update, subsequent to the County filing its petition for review the City of West Palm Beach and the Town of Palm Beach (petitioners) also filed similar petitions. The Court consolidated all three (3) cases and ordered the FAA to respond to the petitioners by January 29, 2026. On January 13, 2026 the FAA filed a motion to the court requesting a 60-day extension to respond to the petitioners on March 30, 2026. The petitioners will be filing a motion in opposition to the FAA’s requested 60-day extension. Last but not least, counsel for the Town and WPB withdrew from the case due to a conflict and a new counsel has been hired to litigate in their behalf.

Incoming planes flying close to Mar-a-Lago

Our office received videos purporting to show planes flying into PBI on Thursday night, coming in near the Southern bridge within the one nautical-mile bubble around Mar-a-Lago. So we asked our Department of Airports. Here's what they told us: We noticed it as well, and the traffic control tower told us it was weather-related. Pilots can request deviations for safety if needed. It isn’t a permanent change.

CCAN meeting on Thursday (01/22/2026)

The Citizens Commission on Airport Noise (CCAN) will meet on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Department of Airport Administrative Building. Take a look at their agenda. As with previous meetings, this one will be live streamed.

Flamingo Park meeting

On January 28th at 6:30 PM at the Howard Park Community Center, residents will receive an update from Congresswoman Frankel's office, Gregg, and neighborhood members. Though this meeting is meant for Flamingo Park residents, everyone is welcome to attend.

As previously reported, Airport Director Laura Beebe provided the following resources if you believe you've suffered damage to your property as a result of the TFRs. We encourage you to contact the FAA to make them aware of the impacts of the recent FAA-implemented changes to the arrival and departure routes at PBI. Contact information may be found below.
