To our Expansion International Family,
In the wake of the devastating floods in Kenya, we at Expansion International spoke at length this week at our board meeting about immediate needs that we may be able to ameliorate; Water-borne illness, and contaminated water supply being top of the list for now. Therefore, we are asking for donations that will go toward deworming medications for the five clinics we support, chlorination for home tanks, and home water filters for the communities affected.
At this time, we don't have information from Kenya on the total expected cost for these items, but we do not want to delay in raising funds. All of these things are always needed so nothing raised will go unused.
The news out of Kenya is that there are up to 200,000 displaced persons with NOTHING but their lives, and countless dead or missing. Rivers and dams nationwide have been damaged and entire communities have been swept away. The aftermath will be a huge humanitarian crisis in all of Eastern Africa, and this is only the 3rd of 8 months of the rainy season.
Later down the line we will likely be dealing with food insecurity and new crop planting initiatives, plus repairing water harvesting containment facilities that have broken down.
We will do what we can, even though it's just a drop. We will help who we can help, and trust God for the big picture. Expansion International's president, Dr. Evans Baiya, said, "God is giving us an opportunity to love and serve those in dire need." So that's what we'll be doing with your help.
Please, help us spread the word and pass this on to friends, family, organizations, and churches who may want to help. Together, we can make a real impact.
Blessings,
Your team at Expansion International
