The Booster Blast
Welcome to 2019!!!

It’s been 4 days since we rang in the New Year and the staff here at Club Booster has only one resolution left to break….oh wait, we thought it was a race.

Baby, it’s cold outside! Thankfully the FPM ski team folded…there’s no heat in the Shack and those $2 water bottle bottles are icing up…to be honest, there were discussions about putting a stick in them, calling them ice pops and selling them for $2.50…I’m pretty sure they were joking though.

As the Winter drags on we find comfort knowing the heat is still churning in the gym and FPM sports teams are more than holding their own and promise to keep it competitive through the rest of the season--while the Spring athletes dig in and prepare for March.

The Boosters thank you for your continued support and we look forward to keeping your spirits bright with lots of fun and interesting initiatives this Winter.

Our Featured Athletes
Meaghan Kilcarr
Meaghan is a three-year member of the Varsity Gymnastics team. She joined the team as a seventh grader and has grown to be an integral part of the team. Last year, her high scores led her to compete in the Nassau County State Qualifier meet, and in the first meet of this season against Valley Stream, she won the all-around and came in first place in both vault and bars. Meaghan is also a Level 8 gymnast at Mid Island Gymnastics in Hicksville. We expect to continue to see great accomplishments from Meaghan throughout this winter season!
Jack Nugent
Jack is a tremendous athlete and is an asset to the track team. Jack excels at both shotput and discus. Jack earned All County honors in the Spring with a shotput throw of 41’2.75”. Jack threw his personal best discus at the Section 8 State qualifiers with a throw of 132’-6”. His impressive work ethic and tenacity keep him focused and working hard every day to improve. Jack’s come out of the gate hot this Winter and hopes are high that he’ll eclipse his personal bests this season. Good luck Jack!!!
The Athletic Trainer's Corner
Introducing Amanda Pirone. Amanda is FPM’s resident Certified Athletic Trainer.

Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians and specialize in prevention, clinical diagnosis, and intervention of medical conditions and sports injuries.

Dog-lover Amanda grew up on Long Island and earned her BS in Athletic Training at Stony Brook University. Amanda is part of The Northwell Health Group’s sports therapy and rehab center and takes the lead in keeping our athletes healthy on and off the field. In addition, Amanda is the first to respond in the case of in-game injuries. Amanda is headquartered in an office outside the gym where she administers treatments and advises our athletes on the finer points of conditioning and injury avoidance.

See the link below for some great tips on stretches for the shoulders.
Christmas Monday at FPM
We got a visit from the North Pole as the Jolly Old Elf himself teamed up with our mascot, the Junior Boosters, and a group of FPM carolers to spread some holiday cheer at halftime of the Lady Knight’s game against Wantagh on December 17.

There was a tee shirt toss, free candy canes, and a free holiday basket raffle chock full of goodies and FPM swag. The basket was won by a Wantagh parent who, in the spirit of the season, gave his prize to one of the home team fans.
The Junior Booster Club
The Junior Booster Club partners with The Booster Club to sell refreshments and school merchandise at The Shack and at selling tables at school events throughout the year. In addition to selling, Junior Boosters help run all the business activities of The Booster Club.

Members get involved in the following business activities:
  • Budgeting and accounting
  • Purchasing and inventory
  • Quality control
  • Organizing and selling
  • Public relations and social media

The Junior Booster Club represents a unique opportunity for students to get involved with their school. We’re very proud to count as members track athletes, volleyball players, cheerleaders, student council members, theater clubbers, band musicians, video gamers, members of the 2:56 club and a few Boy Scouts. As each sport season wraps up, the juniors get a chance to plan an off-campus road trip to celebrate the season. The Junior Booster Club is a fun way for kids to meet new people and fold into the fabric of their school.
Two thumbs up for Junior Booster Sam D'Amato
Sam D'Amato recently took to the FPM stage in the Theater Club’s production of ‘Up the Down Staircase’. Here’s Sam at the bottom left with her castmates---Nice job, Sammy!

If you know anyone who might be interested in joining The Junior Booster Club, have them contact Ms D’Ammassa or reply to this email and we’ll fix them up. We’re planning a JBC recruitment meeting soon. Look for the announcement.

Winter Plans

We’re putting the finishing touches on ‘Booster Park,' the new brick patio brought to us by Eagle Scout candidate David Talero. The Booster Club will be selling personalized bricks, available to the entire FPM community, as a way to leave your permanent mark at your school. In addition, there will be opportunities to sponsor furniture for the patio…details to follow.

January 22nd is Chipotle night! Visit Chipotle on Hempstead Tpke between 5 and 9 pm and Chipotle will donate a portion of their profits to
the FPM Booster Club.
Late February/Early March

The Booster Club hosts ‘A Night of Comedy’ to kick off the Spring Season at Governor’s Comedy Club in Levittown. It’s one of our biggest fundraisers, and it’s a lotta laughs!

Keep your eyes peeled for details from our ‘Commissioner of Comedy,’ Anne Ollen. Anne is putting together a great night, and you’ll want to be part of it.
The Booster Year in Review

We’re happy to report that with your help Club Booster has already been able to support FPM in so many different ways this school year---besides keeping the kids stuffed with pretzels, drinks, and treats.
See below for some of the ways your membership dollars and participation in Booster events has translated into enhancing the FPM experience this Fall:

  • Pre and post-playoff meals for the athletes
  • Purchase of athletic journal ads and awards dinner tickets
  • Gateway ads for homecoming
  • Varsity Media game films for varsity sports for training and college highlight films
  • A new groundskeeping plow to condition the girls’ softball field
  • New air conditioners and associated construction to support ‘a cooler’ weight room
  • A new high jump pit for the track team (a high jump pit comprises the landing pad, the standards and crossbar)
  • Permanent power was provided at the backstop at the baseball field at ATS to operate the outfield scoreboard
  • The Junior Boosters took a Friday night road trip into Manhattan to celebrate the Fall season
  • Donations were made to David Talero's Eagle Scout patio project behind FPM, the PTSA’s Christmas gift drive at Belmont, the FPM Library to buy live foliage, and The Student Activities fundraiser for Reason2Smile at Barnes & Noble.

The Booster Club is committed to the principles of diversity and inclusion and strives to be an equal opportunity supporter. We aspire to enhance the FPM experience for the entire FPM community. We make our impact through the athletic department and through the Junior Booster Club. We welcome your suggestions for projects and initiatives. Please reply to this email with suggestions or if you’re interested in volunteering at our selling tables or to help organize a fund raiser.

We can’t do it without you, so keep those cards and letters coming!
