More Chamber News & Chamber Views
- The House State Affairs Committee heard legislation on Wednesday that would improve access to three rural economic development programs- the Rural Infrastructure Fund, the Regional Development Grants Program, and the Rural Community Development Revolving Loan Fund. This bill passed unanimously a day before Rural Counties Day at the Florida Capitol. The Florida Chamber Foundation Blueprint 2030 lays out a goal of doubling rural county share of Florida GDP by 2030.
- The Florida Chamber fought to defeat an expansion of medical malpractice damages in the House Civil Justice & Property Rights Subcommittee. While HB 6011 ultimately passed its first stop, the Florida Chamber was able to secure five no votes while an identical bill last year passed unanimously. This bill could further increase Florida’s medical malpractice rates and drive medical professionals out of the state exacerbating Florida’s current healthcare workforce shortage.
- Autonomous Florida stood in support of HB 1005, sponsored by Representative Fischer, which creates the Advanced Air Mobility Study Task Force to study the current state of development of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft, related laws, and federal regulations in the industry. Innovative growth and planning, in areas such as urban air mobility and drone delivery, align with Autonomous Florida’s goal of becoming the mobility innovation capital of the world. HB 1005 and its companion SB 728, sponsored by Senator Harrell, have both unanimously passed their first committee stops.
