January 2020 Edition
THE GOVERNOR'S QUACKER
2019-2020 Governor Allen Yergovich

Happy New Year Kiwanians,

I hope you all have made your resolutions to ask one new person to join Kiwanis. I have and I will.

Children’s week in Tallahassee is a little more than a week away. Your Legislators needs to know how you feel about Children’s issues. There will be a follow-up campaign after session, too.

We will have a membership blitz in the Tampa area Feb 18-20. If you would like to come help and learn hands on, please, let us know. It will be great experience for your own membership drives. If you want to help online or on the phone, from home, that’s great! If you know people in the Tampa area who may be interested, please send Lt Gov Suzi  their contact info.

I am also working on another membership initiative we’ll be discussing at the District Board Meeting next month. Ask your Lt Gov for more info after Feb 15. I am excited about it.

International and District Conventions will be here before you know it. Start making plans now. The International Convention Experience has been completely updated, check out the website. Also, our Past Gov and current Trustee Chuck Gugliuzza is running for International VP. We voted unanimously in the house of delegates to support him. Our Florida District Convention will be better than ever with some changes where they were needed and expansion of the things that worked. Registration should opening and you’ll be hearing a lot more soon!

Please make sure that your clubs have submitted their current/updated information to the District Office and that they are filing their monthly forms. These forms help us get an idea of what clubs are doing and where they may need help.

The Signature Project Contest deadline is Jan 27. Please contact Awards Chair Sally Leitzman  for more information.

Thank you for all you do!

Save the Dates
We are organizing our first Membership Blitz in the Tampa and Wesley Chapel areas, where we’ve identified four areas where Kiwanis is lacking. We’ll be hitting the streets to connect with caring people who we will match with an existing club or a new club.

This is an opportunity to come learn - hands on - how to conduct a major membership drive. There are many volunteer opportunities including prospect visits, simply driving a team around, and follow-up. We also need people to make calls and set appointments, which can be done from anywhere. Please volunteer for as much or as little as you can, especially if you want to conduct a Blitz in your division.

These membership blitz's work!
Anyone interested in a blitz in your area,
please learn how the blitz works by participating!
Remember that children need advocates to be their voice to help them access health care, child abuse prevention services and quality early education!

We want as many Kiwanians as possible to come to Tallahassee for Children’s Week. Come join with our allies, experience all the children’s activities first hand and meet with Your Legislators to Advocate for kids!

Kiwanis is all about kids and our collective futures!

This is the ninth year that the Florida District of Kiwanis and the Florida Kiwanis Foundation have participated as a sponsor of Children’s Week, which is organized by the United Way of Florida. We are the ONLY civic service organization to sponsor the event for so many consecutive years.

Can’t make the Trip to Tallahassee? There is plenty you can do from home!
• Meet with your local Senator and Representative and their staff. Inform them of what you, their constituent, are passionate about.
• Email your legislators and committee chairs about issues you care about.
• Write a Letter to the Editor about the issues you care about.
• Organize a phone bank to call legislators about issues we care about, especially expressing support for quality prevention programs like Healthy Families Florida.
• Invite your legislators to your club meeting, any time of year. Ask them to be a guest speaker, or better yet, ask them to be a member.
Registration opens January 15th!
