A new conservation acquisition protects some of the last undeveloped land along the Rainbow River

Last week, a new conservation easement was completed to protect an important piece of the Florida Wildlife Corridor along the Rainbow River. Thank you to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the landowner and Conservation Florida for making it happen. The 135-acre property known as Gissy Rainbow River Ranch is located in southwest Marion County in the City of Dunnellon, covering 4,200 linear feet of shoreline along the Rainbow River providing important linkages in the Florida Wildlife Corridor.

Since the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act of 2021, more than 120,000 acres of land have been approved for protection, towards a goal of protecting an additional 800,000 acres in the Corridor by the end of the decade.
