Florida’s New Abortion Law: Myths and Misinformation
Few issues are more polarizing and more prone to misinformation than abortion. That is why, when the Florida Legislature this past session passed HB 5, both liberal and conservative commentators often invoked hyperbole to describe the legislation and its consequences. On its face, the pertinent section of HB 5, Florida Statute 390.0111, is very concise and clear, as it simply states that “A physician may not perform a termination of pregnancy if the physician determines the gestational age of the fetus is more than 15 weeks.” CLICK HERE to read more.

At-Large 2022 FAFP Officer and Board Candidates - Deadline today!
In accordance with Chapters IV and X of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians (FAFP) Bylaws, nominations for the 2023 FAFP Officers and Board were solicited electronically multiple times via FAFP News beginning on June 15, 2022Subsequently, the FAFP Nominating Committee reviewed the nominations and developed, with FAFP Board of Directors approval, the following 2022 Officer and Board Slate for membership review no later than sixty (60) days prior to the annual business meeting being held on December 10, 2022.  

Chapter IV, Section 4 permits write-in candidates to be added to the ballot for officer and director positions as provided on the slate. To qualify, write-in candidates must notify the FAFP Board Chair by completing the FAFP Write-in Candidate Form no later than TODAY, October 12, 2022. The form or any questions should be sent to FAFP EVP Jay Millson at [email protected]

The final ballot will be sent out to the membership no later than October 25, 2022 (45 days prior to the FAFP Annual Business Meeting scheduled for Saturday, December 10 during the 2022 FAFP Family Medicine Winter Summit). Further instructions will be provided at this time along with the link to vote.
