A note from FloridaWest
Community Leaders & Friends of FloridaWest,
Having a sense of “balance” should be an important part of any community’s economic growth process. Issues like diversity in job and career opportunities, not being overdependent upon a certain employer or business sector, and the geography of local economic development are all important issues for forward-thinking communities. Being proactive in addressing job opportunities for our workforce, achieving economic diversity and property development for businesses is an important part of building a strong and sustainable regional economy.
For Pensacola and Escambia County, we are well-positioned to not only grow, but to grow in ways that make our community more balanced. Our economic strengths, such as defense, cybersecurity and other technologies, are obvious. Downtown Pensacola is a magnet for world-class technology employers such as IHMC, IRIS and Actigraph. Our community is in excellent position to support more tech employment, but for those companies and workers interested in basic manufacturing or professional office opportunities, we also have a lot to offer. While much of our current economic development activity is focused on established business parks, we are now also working on projects in new locations in the County.
Bottom line, whether a company is looking at downtown for engineering, R&D or office operations, or for access to airport, rail and deep-water infrastructure, or an industrial site even in a rural area, we have improved what we can now offer. We are excited about the developments we are currently working on, especially given the wide range of jobs, locations, and types of businesses involved. Our sense of balance is something we should all feel good about!
Sincerely,
Brian Hilson
