Flow: Dalton Maroney 1982 - 2011, is Mr. Maroney's first survey exhibition and is comprised of approximately seventeen sculptures and six works on paper created over a 29 year period. Maroney, an avid fisherman who spends his summers fly fishing in Colorado rivers, has followed a disciplined linear pattern of working with variations of the boat form over the years. His yearly fishing ritual is as contemplative as it is  active and it underlies and informs the focus of his work. He uses the boat as a starting point to explore nuances in his sculptural materials and form, with some pieces appearing more figurative and others becoming abstract. Coloration, which early in his career was minimal, has evolved into richly nuanced hues that add another dimension to the work. His visual language includes metaphors of fishing, the landscape and water - where he is at ease. This message is clearly imparted by his pristinely-crafted wooden sculptures.
Dalton Maroney is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art + Art History at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he has taught since 1980.
The exhibition is curated by Benito Huerta, Professor and Director of The Gallery at UTA, University of Texas at Arlington.
