"I feel there is something unexplored about woman that only a woman can explore."
Georgia O'Keefe
This issue recognizes the impact of women on the modern world. We talked to Professor Mylynka Kilgore Cardona of Texas A&M University-Commerce to find out how we continue to overcome stereotypes and make progress. We also preview Decisions By Sarah Fisher — an exhibit at Marshall's Michelson Museum of Art that displays a variety of artistic perspectives about subjects and their backgrounds.

Lillian Richard Williams of Hawkins Was Aunt Jemima
Lillian Richard was born in Hawkins, Texas, on March 23, 1891. She would one day be one of the "Aunt Jemima" actresses representing that brand for Quaker Oats. At the age of 20 Lillian went to Dallas looking for work and a short time later was contracted by Quaker Oats Company asking her to go store to store, dressed as Aunt Jemima to demonstrate Aunt Jemima's pancakes and other products. Even while there were various women playing Aunt Jemima, her career with Quaker Oats lasted over 37 years and focused primarily in appearances in the southern states of the U.S. In 1995 The Texas legislature passed a resolution declaring Hawkins "The Pancake Capital of Texas" because of her fame. Her name also graces a historic plaque in the Wood County area of Fouke. READ MORE.
