Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW that severe depression is often brought on by severe inflammation?

According to a study from Medrxiv, physiosomatic, chronic fatigue-fibromyalgia, and gastrointestinal symptoms belong to the same factor as depression, anxiety, melancholia, and insomnia. This is partly caused by immune-associated neurotoxicity due to excessive, chronic activation of immune cells that become dysfunctional, eventually lowering immune protection, leading to severe inflammation.

Addressing severe inflammation with diet and lifestyle modification can ameliorate severe depression.

Infection Support

For Prevention or During Infection

Year-round infection is the new normal. We are exposed to many endemic viruses including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), influenza (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), norovirus (stomach flu), adenovirus (common cold), monkeypox, and four other coronaviruses (common cold), among others. Support your immune system with our Free Prevent and Fight Infection 2.0 Protocol here.

Warning: Counterfeit, Adulterated Supplements Online

On the internet, especially at Amazon, there is an epidemic of counterfeit, adulterated, and purposely mislabeled dietary supplements. In September 2023, a man was arrested for selling counterfeit Pure Encapsulations products. A study from JAMA Network Open found that half of immune products analyzed from Amazon had labels that did not match the contents. The FDA sent a warning letter to Amazon in later December 2023.

Public Health Update

Steve: Here's the pertinent public health data revealed in the last four months. The rest of this issue's public health topics, such as heavy metals in chocolate, fluoride, artificial sweeteners, COVID boosters, medications, and much more can be found in the paid member version.

Fluoridated Water

A new government report links high fluoride exposure in drinking water to lower IQ in children. The report, published by the Department of Health and Human Services’s National Toxicology Program, found that drinking water containing more than 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per liter is associated with the lower IQs after reviewing epidemiology studies in Canada, China, India, Iran, Pakistan and Mexico. In those countries, some pregnant women, infants and children were exposed to fluoride higher than 1.5 milligrams per liter of drinking water.

Cardiovascular Disease Risk Assessment

A recently unveiled cardiovascular disease risk calculator in JAMA that measures a patient's risk for heart attack and stroke is better calibrated and more precise than its previous version. Thankfully, the new risk calculator would allow 16 million Americans to potentially go off cholesterol and blood pressure drugs.

Alcohol

According to the American Cancer Society's CA Journal, alcohol was associated with seven different types of cancer: oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, colorectum, breast (among women), squamous cell carcinoma in the esophagus, and hepatocellular carcinoma in the liver. The increased risk is because of the alcohol in alcoholic beverages, not the type of beverage. Even consuming alcohol in small amounts comes with possible risks. A recent CDC study found that about 17 percent of cancer deaths were attributable to low levels of alcohol consumption, well below the medical guidance of a maximum of two drinks per day for men and one for women. Finally, people over age 60 who drink alcohol regularly are at an increased risk of early death, particularly from cancer, according to the findings of a new, large study in JAMA Network Open.

Polypharmacy

More than 40% aged 65 years or older reported using 5 or more prescription medications in the past 30 days between 2017 and 2020, according to an analysis published in JAMA Internal Medicine. Only about 24% of older people between 1999 and 2000 said they had used 5 or more medications during the past month, which the researchers defined as polypharmacy.

Colon Cancer

A Cleveland Clinic study has identified diet-derived molecules called metabolites as main drivers of young-onset colorectal cancer risk. The NPJ Precision Oncology Report, which analyzed metabolite and microbiome datasets, highlighted that one of the best ways a younger (less than 60 years) adult can prevent colorectal cancer is to discuss their diet with their health professional. The stool analysis we use called GI-Map is a great way to assess your risk!

Case Report

Antidepressant-Free!

Several months ago, I asked Steve for guidance on eliminating Zoloft. I had needed the drug for about 18 months, but after managing through specific stressors, I wanted to stop taking the medication.

Steve’s insights into my lifestyle, eating, and body chemistry allowed he and my physician to guide my gradual Zoloft elimination by adding two supplements, GABA and L-Theanine.

I successfully eliminated Zoloft, which has significantly improved my overall well-being. Steve reached out over the process, giving me guidance and encouragement.

With his advice, over several years, I have eliminated inflammatory foods and stopped taking Lorazepam and Zoloft. I have emerged stronger and feel so much better.

Sincerely,

Appreciative Client

Chiro Corner NEW!

Helping a Child with Epilepsy

According to the Cleveland Clinic; “Epilepsy is a brain disease where nerve cells don’t signal properly, which causes seizures.” The September Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health, Chiropractic cited the case of an 11 year old boy suffering from rapid eye movement and Epileptic seizures six times a day. What a stress to the boy and his family.

The chiropractic examination revealed problems with his posture, misalignments of his spine and restricted range of motion. He began receiving chiropractic care on a regular basis, which enhances brain signals. He responded beautifully with less rapid eye movements and went from having six seizures a day to one a month. What a relief for him and his family.

Seems this could offer hope to those seeking alternative solutions for managing complex neurological conditions. It certainly is a powerful example of the crucial role that chiropractic offers in optimizing brain and nervous system function. If you know someone with Epilepsy please share.
