A REVIEW OF JUNGLE BLUES - DO YOU KNOW THE FAMOUS GEORGE MELLEY? FLY FISHERMAN UK?
Have you ever heard of George Melley? He was a collector of surrealist art, a writer, a newspaper columnist, a bisexual, a jazz and blues singer, and a fly fisherman.
From his art collection he once sold an incredibly valuable work by Magritte so he could but a mile of trout fishing in Wales.
An incident in your book reminded me of all of this. This is from George Melley's book on fishing
"I’ve also written a book about fishing called Hooked. It wasn’t a book about how you do it, but why… It’s a very personal book. For instance, I write about an incident about which I’ve never written or told people, an incident when I caught a trout which I was utterly enamored of. You see, it was the first one I’d caught on that particular river. And I found my way into a sort of jungle of weeds and lay down and put the fish on a trunk and masturbated. "
Perhaps you can guess the passage in Jungle Blues that jogged my memory?
Richard Nelson - UK- ENGLAND- 01/08/2020
At the moment the trout in NZ are goring themselves, where any streams or rivers come into lakes or the sea on whitebait-aka smelt. The sexy minnow in the photos been going off for people using it recently. You can see how realist the design is in the photo even more so in the water.
The photo of the hat is from a very ,very, very, very old client :). Its great he still has the hat and proudly wears it he says in bed which turns his partner on?
All the collectors Jungle Blues camo caps are gone now, so if you bought one of them along with the book, you now have a very special cap, hold onto it, as it maybe be worth nothing in a few years? :) :)
THE SMALLEST TROUT COMP
Last year along with Tom from the Mossburn pub for a group of lovey fishermen from Australia we came up with the idea for a competition for the smallest trout.
Trigger supplied the prizes- cool box of flies, Jar of pickled onions and a sticker. Tom had to keep the prizes in his safe as they all were after them more so the second prize of the onions! .
there was a bit of cheating going on though there was a clear winner, who caught a small inch long trout at his feet in a puddle when his fly was just laying on the bottom. The story goes- he was having a pee when a tiny trout, stuck in the puddle from floods snaffled his fly. I'm still not sure was it was legal to win- a bit like bait fishing? His wife and family were happy for him when he phoned home to tell him he won a comp for the smallest trout!.
David a club president! was caught in the chefs fridge of the Mossburn hotel, impaling a whitebait onto his fly , though got found out and disqualified, i also tried to win my box of flies back with the smallest trout, though they figured out it was cut out a magazine despite my weed and water on it for disguise. Great fun was had - good to know size does not matter or does it?
THE MAN FROM BURMA
The photo of the man from Burma was taken a decade ago when I first went to Burma to try and catch a Snakehead, ending up at the army fish farm that's the part in the book that you will read about or have already.
