Information about fall/winter season
It's that time of year again! You should have received an email about the 2019/2020 fall/winter season of the Flying Fish, which begins October 7, with a pre-season beginning on September 9. The email includes details about group placement, schedules, and registration dates. You'll find a copy of that email here.

Please note that families interested in scholarships should complete registration by Saturday, August 3. There is no registration during the week of August 5. Registration resumes the week of August 12.
Private lessons available until August 16
Is your swimmer interested in a personalized tune-up before the season begins, or intensive work on a particular skill? We're offering private lessons between now and August 16. The cost is $40 per half hour. Email Pete if you're interested.
Learn about exciting renovations at the YWCA
All Flying Fish parents, guardians and interested family members are invited to attend meetings about upcoming plans to renovate and expand the YWCA. You can choose between two meetings:
  • Tuesday, August 20, from 1-2 pm or
  • Wednesday, August 21, from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Both meetings will be held in room 207 on the second floor of the YWCA. No need to RSVP, just show up. We hope to see you there!
August swim and water polo clinics
We're offering swim clinics during the break between the summer and fall/winter seasons. You can sign up for one session or all sessions. We are also offering water polo clinics during this time for 10-14 year olds.

Clinic details per week:
Week of July 29
Swim clinic - butterfly
10-unders:
  • M,W,F - 4:15-5:15 pm
  • Saturday - 2-3 pm

11-14 year olds:
  • Mon. through Fri. - 5:15-6:30 pm
  • Saturday - 12:30-2 pm

Water polo clinic
10-14 year olds:
  • Mon. through Thurs. - 6:30-7:30 pm

Week of August 5
Swim clinic - breaststroke
10-unders:
  • M,W,F - 4:15-5:15 pm
  • Saturday - 2-3 pm

11-14 year olds:
  • Mon. through Fri. - 5:15-6:30 pm
  • Saturday - 12:30-2 pm

Water polo clinic
10-14 year olds:
  • Mon. through Thurs. - 6:30-7:30 pm

Week of August 12 (schedule changes)
Swim clinic - freestyle and backstroke
10-unders:
  • Mon. through Thurs. - 3-4 pm

11-14 year olds:
  • Mon. through Fri. - 4-5:15 pm

Water polo clinic
10-14 year olds:
  • Mon. through Thurs. - 5:15-6:15 pm

Fees
  • 10-under swim clinics: $80 for one week, $70 per week for multiple weeks
  • 11-14-year-old swim clinics: $90 for one week, $80 per week for multiple weeks
  • Water polo clinics: $85 for one week, $75 per week for multiple weeks

Meet results
Speedo Sectionals @ University of Minnesota
Thursday, July 18 - Sunday, July 21

Results are posted here. Congratulations to:
  • Matt Gibson, who placed second in the men's 200-meter fly with a time of 2:03.71, which is a new team record and also qualified him for Junior Nationals in Stanford, CA, next week. Matt also set a new team record with a ninth-place finish in the men's 200-meter back, with a time of 2:07.30. Matt also set team records in the open boys 100-meter fly (57.73) and open boys 100-meter back (1:00.36).
  • Aidan Dillon, who finished tenth in the men's 800-meter free with a time of 8:38.76.
  • Aidan Dillon, Aaron Martin, Evan Ziolkowski, and Tommy Hackley, who finished sixth in the men's 800-meter free relay with a time of 8:00.87, a new team record for open boys.
  • Aaron Martin, John Martin, Aidan Dillon, and Evan Ziolkowski who set a new open boys team record with their sixteenth place finish of 3:39.55.


IL Regionals @ Niles North High School, Skokie
Friday, July 19 - Sunday, July 21

Results are posted here. Congratulations to these swimmers who swam to first-place finishes:
  • Nate Cvetas, 11-12 boys 500-yard free (5:37.82) and 50-yard breast (34.41);
  • Annie Lewis, open girls 200-yard free (1:59.21);
  • Frances Hammer, 11-12 girls 200-yard breast (2:42.16);
  • Oona O'Brien, 11-12 girls 50-yard fly (29.38);
  • Cadel Saszik, 11-12 boys 100-yard fly (1:06.02).
IL Age Group Championships @ Lake Central High School in St. John, IN
Thursday, July 25 - Sunday, July 28

Results are posted here. Congratulations to these swimmers:
  • Nate Cvetas, who finished eighth in the 11-12 boys 50-meter fly (31.30) and ninth in the 11-12 boys 100-meter fly (1:11.90).
  • Milo Balzer, who placed ninth in the 13-14 boys 200-meter fly (2:19.10) and tenth in the 13-14 boys 100-meter fly (1:02.95).
  • Will Huston, Cadel Saszik, Tommy Gardy, and Nate Cvetas (pictured) who took tenth place in the 11-12 boys 400-meter freestyle relay with a team record time of 4:33.64.
  • Frances Hammer who set a team record in the 11-12 girls 200-meter breast with a time of 3:09.94 (prelims). She finished 19th in the final.
