Steve: Since the COVID-pandemic, I have seen clients with long COVID who also have secondary fungal infections, sometimes severe, that exponentially exacerbated their symptoms. Aspergillus, Candida, and Mucorales are the primary fungal pathogens. A recent Medrxiv study supports my clinical finding. OTC Decongestant Ingredient Going Away

The FDA has proposed to remove oral phenylephrine, widely used in cold and cough syrups, as an active ingredient in over-the-counter drugs for nasal congestion, stating it is not effective. Phenylephrine is widely used in a variety of medicines, including popular products such as Benadryl, Advil, and Tylenol.

Last year, an outside panel of experts unanimously voted against the effectiveness of orally administered phenylephrine as a nasal decongestant, adding that no more trials were required to prove otherwise. Companies such as Procter & Gamble and GSK were among several accused in lawsuits of deceiving consumers about cold medicines containing the ingredient.

COVID Boosters

According to a study in Nature Communications, COVID-19 booster vaccination was associated with an increased risk of some autoimmune diseases including alopecia areata, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Saline Nasal Spray

Using saline nasal drops can reduce the length of the common cold in children by two days, according to a study presented at the European Respiratory Society Congress. They can also reduce the onward transmission of colds to family members. Look at the ingredients to make sure that the product is thimerosal-free (thimerosal is mercury).

A 30-something couple saw Steve because they were having trouble conceiving and had been through several miscarriages. Their intention was to optimize their diet and lifestyle for six months before going the fertility treatment route.

Steve noticed that both of them were reacting to one or more foods. Both were overly acidic, but the wife was exceptionally so. The key was for them to understand that diet and lifestyle change was just as important for the husband as the wife.

After giving them both specific dietary modifications, stress management reduction techniques, and targeted supplemental nutrients, the goal was to get pregnant in three months. If not, they would do stool and/or food reaction testing.

They followed the plan to the letter and in three months, they became pregnant and carried a healthy baby to term!

Have you ever been in a car accident? Even a fender bender? The December 2024 Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research cited a study of how motor vehicle accidents play a significant role in the misalignment of the bones in the neck, called subluxations. 

7500 patient x-rays were analyzed to reveal that the sudden hit during an accident created exaggerated movement of the bones and ligaments in the neck. This disrupts the normal spinal alignment and contributes to nervous system interference and ligamentous damage. These are key factors in what chiropractors study, evaluate for and correct: vertebral subluxations.

This study determined that there is a relationship between specific patterns of subluxations that occur in the neck due to these sudden traumas. These have a direct correlation to the severity of injuries and symptoms. Some notice symptoms immediately after the trauma while others suffer from symptoms as time goes by. These subluxations of the spine can create all kinds of problems, including permanent impairment. 

Never underestimate the effects of sudden movements in the neck and spine during any kind of accident. These lead to subluxations of the bones and a host of symptoms immediately or even years later. Your chiropractor will create a plan to help you with the trauma of these subluxations.
