Local Levies on Election Ballots
In this time of limited federal and state funding and a growing senior population, local senior levies play a crucial role in providing supportive services to seniors. Our region has four county-wide senior levies and three are on the ballot this November 6. The Area Agency on Aging endorses senior levies in Champaign , Clark, and Greene counties, and urges voters to support funding of these vital senior services.

Board of Trustees Awards Contracts
In October, the Area Agency on Aging’s Board of Trustees approved contracts with local organizations for $4.4 million in Older Americans Act (OAA) and state funding. OAA services include congregate meals, home-delivered meals, transportation, caregiver support, home repair, ombudsman and legal services. Services will be provided to individuals age 60 and older in the nine-county area for the period of January 2019 – December 2022. Congress Finalizes FY 2019 Funding for OAA & Other Aging Programs
In late September the House of Representatives sent to the President's desk a bill funding the bulk of defense and non-defense discretionary programs and providing stop-gap funding to keep remaining agencies functioning through December 7. The bill preserves many increases for Older Americans Act and other aging programs that were secured in FY 2018. It also provides modest increases for nutrition programs and Native American aging programs, and new funding to several caregiver-focused proposals and demonstration programs. This effort marks the first time in many years that Congress has finalized funding for these programs before the October 1 beginning of the fiscal year.
