Volunteer Opportunities with ILF
Have you considered serving in an on-site or leadership capacity with Indiana Library Federation?
We are seeking several volunteers for one-time, short-term or all-year, long-term assignments. The ILF Board is making appointments for 2019.
Short-term opportunities (NOV)
:
*
Annual Conference volunteers
give shifts at the conference Nov. 12-14. Registered attendees may volunteer for a specific 1-2 hour block and avoid conflicts with desired session topics. Other volunteers who are not registered are asked to volunteer at the conference for at least four hours. Specific needs include:
- registration desk
- photographer (s) / videographer
- ILF ambassadors to welcome first-time attendees
- "fun committee" to lead teams for trivia night, games and exhibit hall prizes
*
Computer / Technology inventory
- Help us sort, inventory, update and label our technology equipment. Estimate 1/2 day in Indy office; one time is planned the week of Nov. 5. Some technology experience required. Why? We received a donation that will enable a computer lab at conferences.
Long-term opportunities (2019)
:
ILF Committees, Association Advisory Boards and Divisions are comprised of a leaders from academic, public, school and special library staff, as well as trustees, friends and advocates. Meetings and requirements vary from a few meetings a year to 2-4 hours every month. Most allow participation by conference call and online meeting. We seek diverse representation of library types, positions, geography, skills and experience. Serving in ILF Leadership is a great way to meet other people and support the library community.
*
ILF Committees -
Committees need candidates for 2019
. Note that some committees have waiting lists, and many routinely fill vacancies throughout the year, so tell us your interest in:
- Awards
- Advocacy/Legislative
- Book Awards (YHBA, Rosie and Read Aloud)
- Communications
- Intellectual Freedom, or
- Professional Development
*
ILF Divisions
are the special groups for people with similar interests or positions. Aligned with our Strategic Vision, some Divisions will focus on special projects in 2019. Each Division has a leadership team that meets regularly and guides special projects and professional development. Below are a few examples:
- Marketing Division;
- Management Division;
- ILL/Circulation;
- Tech Services; and
- Youth Services Division especially needs representation from northern Indiana.
Email us
with "Volunteer" in the subject line and describe your interest. Or submit the
volunteer form online
at the bottom of the membership page.

Questions about EBSCO
As EBSCO databases have been challenged in other states--and now in Indiana in the context of INSPIRE access to K-12 students, we are reminded of the importance of solid library policies and practices. Here are 4 steps for libraries:
- Know your library policies;
- Inform administrators and staff;
- Refresh your staff; and
- Prepare possible responses.

Amendment on the Nov. 6 ballot
We have received questions from members about the question on the Nov. 6 ballot-- the question asking voters whether or not to amend the Indiana Constitution to include a balanced budget amendment.
ILF does not have a position on this issue.
Because social media posts have provided conflicting information, we want to provide you a variety of sources. While questions have been raised about the possible future impact on public pensions,
IN Public Retirement System
affirms the
amendment would not impact pre-funded pensions
