Recently I borrowed  To Sell is Human  by Daniel Pink from my public library. This book dives into non-sales sales for people who are not salespeople.  Confusing?  
A bit, but Pink expertly illustrates what it means to sell for people in every field--even libraries.

Pink’s premise is that in a world that has virtually eliminated the door-to-door salespeople, there is more “selling” than ever. In fact, he suggests that many companies today depend on everyone in the organization “selling,”--not just a sales force. Daily most people spend time persuading people for things, cooperation, ideas, or commitments. Register for Regional Conferences

We have five excellent regional conferences planned for April. We are featuring conflict resolution training from Peace Learning Center , many TLEU sessions, and much more.
You are invited to attend any conference that is convenient for you.

You can view two-page programs and register now . A few sessions are still being finalized. This year’s member rate is $50 and the nonmember rate is $65 (includes lunch). An institutional member can take advantage of the member pricing IF they send more than two of their staff to the conference. Please complete a group registration form so that we can ensure you receive the correct pricing. We ask that you share the information about regionals with your staff, coworkers, neighbors, etc.

The ILF Professional Development Committee needs your help in identifying potential speakers for sessions in management, youth services, tech services, hands-on technology, marketing, customer service, and more for academic, public, school, and special libraries. Suggest a speaker or submit a session. (Note that we are seeking academic librarian volunteers to provide their content areas in their profiles if willing to help review in a peer review process.)

With ILF's 2020 theme of Everyone Counts , we plan to provide high-quality sessions about diversity, inclusion, qualitative and quantitative data, self-care, family history, and all the basics of the modern library.

Legislative Updates:
SB410 passed, final week of state legislature, and federal call to action
SB410, the library bill, passed the Senate 49-0 and passed the House 89-0 on Monday, 3/2. We encourage you to share your appreciation to legislators through our ILF Action Center . See also ILF Policy Priorities for details about SB410.

Today, 3/3, is the 3rd reading deadline, where bills must pass the second chamber. The conference committee process will resolve differences in bill language passed by the chambers. ILF continues to monitor tax- and education-related bills still under consideration.

We also call attention to the ask to contact our members of Congress about federal funding , as it supports more than $3 million each year for Indiana.

Public Library Budget Preparation Workshop
May 19, at New Palestine
This workshop provides step-by-step, line-by-line guidance on how to plan for and prepare your annual budget. While most beneficial for newer PL directors , all directors, finance managers, and trustees are welcome. We still encourage attendees to participate in the budget session held by Indiana State Library. Register .
Public Library Sustainability 2030

After the 2019 session of the Indiana General Assembly, the ILF Board charged the PL2030 Committee to explore various aspects of long-term public library sustainability. PL2030 Committee leaders will share data analysis and tools for exploring ways to thrive in the future. RSVP for ILF Members.

Learn and Share Together in ILF Virtual Exchanges
ILF prioritized increased member engagement in 2020. We offer a range of Virtual Exchanges to ILF members. Each session is designed with about 10-15 minutes of formal content, followed by an open dialogue and sharing. Some content is archived. We encourage participants to use their cameras to build relationships with each other.

All Virtual Exchanges are open to all ILF members and encourage two-way communication. Meet committee and division leaders and other ILF members across Indiana.
