Happy November everyone. On Election Day, I was at a meeting with Kristi Howe from Vigo County Public Library. As many libraries do, their central location serves as a polling place, and she was checking in regularly on social media to see how it was going. VCPL has been a polling location for years, but they have really stepped up their efforts in the last few years to create a welcoming, friendly, vibrant atmosphere for folks coming in to vote.   Read More

Photo / Video Contest - Extended Deadline
The deadline for the ILF Library Photo/Video Contest has been extended! We are seeking photos and videos that show diverse audiences in four categories toward the theme,  Libraries Look to the Future .  NEW deadline is November 28 , 2018 . A $100 prize will be given in each category. For rules and more information click here. Please forward to art teachers and photography clubs.

If you allow photos in your library, post this for your patrons and staff to participate. See photos submitted to date by searching for #ILFLibraryPhoto and #ILFLibraryVideo on social media. Post your own favorite photos from your school, academic or public library!
Countdown to ILF Conference
Just days until over 700 attendees, 100 speakers and 70 exhibitors and sponsors convene for the 2018 ILF Annual Conference with theme of Lead.Educate.Advocate.

Registrants should have received "know before you go" emails in the last week. We look forward to keynotes from Dr. Vanessa Allen-McCloud and Eva Kor , outstanding sessions, a computer lab, Roundtables and so much more. We will enjoy an all new trivia and social event sponsored by the library and information science programs at IU and IUPUI. ILF Board Election

Elections this week
Indiana Elections

The Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment passed with about a 71%-29% rate.

Republicans will control all statewide offices , 7 of 9 Congressional Districts and both chambers of the Statehouse . Some results are still being finalized.


Of the referendums around the state, the majority of controlled project referendums failed and the majority of school tax levy referendums passed. See full list at DLGF .
Election Day as an Engagement Day

Vigo County Public Library maximizes Election Day as an Engagement Day . The full library opens at 6 a.m., in addition to serving as a polling site from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Library staff engage members of the community while they wait in line by providing magazines, games and showing voters new ways to use the Library.
Requirements for Internet Connectivity
IN Dept of Education reminded schools of the requirements for an internet safety policy, technology protection measures and public notice and hearings in a recent guidance document .

The IN State Library includes several links related to requirements for e-Rate , including background information on CIPA
ILF Board Election
The deadline for ILF Members to vote for the Candidate slate for the ILF Board of Directors is Nov. 12 . Thanks to all who already voted.

Please see last issue for list of leadership service opportunities with ILF Committees , Division Leadership Teams , Advisory Boards and special projects . We also will need Regional Conference volunteers for tentative conferences held in Richmond, Mishawaka, Crawfordsville, Evansville and one other location.

Submit the volunteer form . The ILF Board will be confirming appointments at its December meeting.

IU Lilly Library celebrates 80th anniversary of 'The War of the Worlds' broadcast
Indiana University Libraries' Lilly Library is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the 1938 "The War of the Worlds" broadcast by openly streaming its recent digitization of the infamous radio event taken directly from Orson Welles' personal lacquer disc recordings.

Library Takes Historic House High-Tech
A ribbon-cutting and grand opening in early September marked a new beginning for both the Floyd County Library and a historic house in the heart of the small community of Galena. Read More

The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library (PGTPL) will take part in National Radiologic Technology Week, an annual event that recognizes the vital work of the nation’s medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals. Read More

Library Photo Exhibit Shares Stories Of African American Males
This past spring, photographer Jerry Taliaferro shot portraits for an exhibit commissioned by the Center for Black Literature and Culture. Taliaferro is based in North Carolina, and this is the second photography project he’s worked on for the CBLC. Read More
