What will it be like after COVID?
When the calendar turns to January 1, 2021, will we through with COVID? We certainly would like that to happen but it would not be the likely reality. As easily as a year ago, when 2020 began, we could not imagine living in a world effected by a global pandemic. Can we now imagine a world after COVID is perhaps gone (or at least diminished)? It's hard to fathom.
Many sources, such as the National Safety Council (NSA) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), agree that the effects of COVID on the wellbeing of the workforce may linger long after COVID vaccinations are given.
Will we be prepared?
Preparing ahead of time in the workplace to address topics such as employee mental health and wellbeing can give a company the opportunity to work upstream on any potential workforce issues as a result of the pandemic. Knowing how to help employees deal with depression, stress, anxiety, substance abuse and other mental health conditions can have a positive impact on productivity, absenteeism and retention.
