In early February the Finnish American Folk School will host Duluth based artists Kirsten and Alison Aune to teach three great new classes in our Hancock studios. Kirsten is known for screen printing bold, geometric yardage (pictured above) which she sews into garments, table linens, pillows, and more. Her sister Alison is a professor of art education at the University of Minnesota Duluth and is known for her floral pattern paintings and folk art.
Here at the FAFS Kirsten will be teaching fabric stenciling and hand-quilting using her incredibly colorful fabrics. Alison will teach us how to make colorful, creative, and contemporary himmeli - a fresh take on an old tradition. All three workshops are great opportunities to submerge in some vibrant colors in the midst of winter.
