Last weekend was a special one at the Finnish American Folk School. We hosted carver Alex Yerks for a 3-day kuksa carving workshop. Ten students from three states gathered to learn how to take fresh birch from tree to wooden cup.

The workshop would not have been possible without the help of some very dedicated volunteers who built the custom benches pictured here and harvested the beautiful birch we carved. Kiitos!

This is just the beginning of greenwood carving activities at the FAFS, so stay in touch if you'd like to carve with us.

Independence Day Program

Mark your calendars for our annual observance of Finland's Independence Day. This year's event at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock will include guest speakers, music, and dance followed by the opening reception of the Friends of Finland Art Exhibition.
