We're starting a new month with some great news! The Folk School Ceramics Studio and Wood Shop are now open. We have exciting new classes open for registration, like Working Big with Clay with Lindsey Heiden and Kuksa Carving with Alex Yerks. And we have many more programs in the works, including some online instruction. Check out the info about programming below and stay tuned for more. This summer the Folk School Fiber Studio was full of happy weavers during our intensive Beginning Weaving & Ryijy Workshops. Stay tuned for more great fiber arts this fall & winter.

Kivajat Finnish American Folk Dance Group

sponsored by the Finnish American Heritage Center

The Kivajat Finnish American Folk Dance Group is open to new dancers this fall. Boys and girls in grades 3 -7 are welcome to try the group - free - during September, starting Sept. 9. We meet on Mondays 3:45 - 5:00 (5th - 7th graders continue until 5:20) at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock. Older youth, grades 8 -12, are welcome to try the Loistavat, also on Mondays 6:30 - 8:00 pm.  (The Little Finnish Dancers, K - grade 2 will meet on Thursdays, starting in mid-winter, dates TBA)  

$30 per family for the entire year; costumes are provided for performing. We practice weekly during the school year, and perform at nursing homes and local festivals throughout the year. Register Here  Visit Facebook or send an email KivajatDancers@gmail.com for more information.  

Get involved at the Folk School by volunteering your time and skills. We're building a list of volunteers we can call on when we need extra help. This could include physical support for projects like gardening and moving looms or other less physical tasks like serving as a greeter at an event.
