Dear Friend of FEDICE:
Blessings on you and thank you for your support of the FEDICE ministry in Ecuador.
On Sunday the group attended worship with San Pablo Alta United Methodist Church. Below is an update of their Sunday experiences.
Worship, Wonder, Guinea pigs, and Much More
Sunday was a day filled to the brim with church launching our spirits in to moon. The San Pablo Alta United Methodist Church blessed our group with an opportunity to bring a message and songs. Pastor Carla Greg Kern from Good Shepherd United Church of Christ preach a wonderful message about being light and salt for the whole community where we live. She reminded us not to be complacent or disenchanted by the events around us but to let God shine in us, around us and among us.
Pastor Bernice Rivera, from Rio de Dios Christian Church of Hillsboro, Oregon, translated Carla’s message into Spanish. Gifts of music were presented in Quichua (an indigenous language of the area), Spanish, and English from the congregation and the group from Oregon/Idaho and North Carolina. Gifts were presented to pastor Carmita - past President of FEDICE Ecuador. She received a stole from a Native Oregon artist and a blanket from a fiber artist in North Carolina.
We had a marvelous lunch from the church. Next we headed to Ibarra to ride an old train which used to carry workers. Newly transformed into a cultural tour ride to artist and merchants, the train took us to the historic community of San Antonio where master carvers create works of fine art.
Then we headed to see three projects that highlighted the real work of FEDICE. First was a sewing group that had worked many hundreds of hours to earn a certificate which will provide them with a great source of income. We also visited a small farm cooperative that produces milk, eggs and guinea pigs. Lastly, the group visited the amazing Ossergone Cooperative that produces fabulous meals for seniors, day care centers, and community parties. They have expanded their business into making amazing cakes and ice cream thanks to a micro loan from FEDICE.
To say these groups are flourishing is a massive understatement.
FEDICE Ecuador is growing and changing the lives and communities of the women they serve. What a great blessing
