Dear Residents,

As promised, we have compiled follow-up information regarding questions presented at the annual Avalon HOA meeting last week. The questions and answers are as follows:

Q: What is being built on the northeast corner of Avalon Park Blvd. and Alafaya Trail?
A: The Reserves, which is a 264 apartment unit complex.

Q: What is the purpose of the green fencing located in the retention pond at the northeast corner of Avalon Park Blvd. and Alafaya Trail?
A:  It is a reflector wall to keep sediment and debris from running off of Alafaya Trail into the outlet structure located on the edge of the retention pond.

Q: When will the reclaimed water project be completed throughout Avalon Park?
A:  All residents of Avalon will have reclaimed water by February 2013. There is a slight portion of the northeast sector undergoing construction which delayed their reclaimed water access until February of 2013.

Q:  Are negotiations ongoing with OUC to gain access to the Hal Scott Preserve (Avalon Mailer Trail) via the bridge?
A:  Yes, I have been in numerous discussions with both Orange County staff and OUC staff to work out an agreement for use. There are legal issues that need to be finalized between OUC and Orange County. Both parties need to have comfort in the language regarding use and risk. I am also working with Avalon to gain access to an easement necessary to complete the trail agreement. You,the residents, must vote to allow Orange County this access. I need your assistance to bring this to fruition.

Q: Once completed, what will the Avalon/Mailer Trail hours be?
A: Sunup to Sundown.

Q: Will the trail be dirt or paved?
A: TBD.

Q: When the Alafaya Trail Widening Project is completed, will there be a sidewalk on Alafaya connecting Avalon Park Blvd. to the south entrance?
A:  When it was brought to my attention that there was no sidewalk on the Alafaya Trail Widening Project connecting Avalon Park Blvd. to Mailer, I made a request for Public Works to assess and review this request. There are several cost factors to consider such as wetland permits, culvert piping, cost and design. I have asked Public Works to prioritize this sidewalk project based on availability of funds. I will know more after January once the Pedestrian Safety Committee has completed their assessment.

Q: Will there be buttons to stop traffic and safely cross Alafaya Trail at the entrance to Avalon Park once the widening project is completed?
A:  Yes, the intersection will be fully signalized complete with crosswalks and pedestrian signals.

There are a few items to note that my office has been working on in order to enhance driver/pedestrian/cyclist safety on Avalon Park Blvd. After listening to your concerns regarding the speed limits on Avalon Park Blvd., the County will be conducting two speed studies. One study will take place between Timber Creek High School and Camelot Elementary. The other speed study will take place between Camelot Elementary and S.R. 50. These speed studies are being perfomed in order to determine if a change of speed is necessary.

There will be a school sign installed on Tanja King at Phoenix Dr (eastbound) direction for Stone Lakes Elementary.

You may also notice twenty "Share the Road" signs erected along Avalon Park Blvd. These signs have been placed as an awareness to drivers that cyclists are sharing the road.

If you have any further questions or comments regarding these activities, please call my office at (407) 836-5881 or email me at jennifer.thompson@ocfl.net.

Yours in service,
