FLC's Land Acknowledgement Statement

We also celebrate and recognize today and every day, the original Tribal Nations of the land where the college campuses are located. Our Land Acknowledgement Statement pays homage and offers respect and gratitude to citizens of Tribal Nations and their enduring relationship to the land:

"We respectfully acknowledge the land currently occupied by Folsom Lake College as the traditional home of the sovereign Nisenan, Maidu, and Miwok peoples who have a unique and enduring relationship stewarding this land since time immemorial. Despite colonization, occupation, and genocide, the Nisenan, Maidu, and Miwok people continue and thrive in their resilience and self-determination. We celebrate and recognize our Nisenan, Maidu, and Miwok tribal neighbors and honor their sustained existence."

Supporting Dreamers: DACA Update

While we are disappointed in the recent Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program, it doesn’t change our commitment to welcome and serve all students at the Los Rios Colleges. We will use all tools available to ensure every student feels safe and supported on our campuses. You have a place here!

If you need assistance, have questions about what the recent DACA ruling means for you, or need support, please contact the FLC Undocu-Falcons program at [email protected].

National Coming Out Day

National Coming Out Day will be celebrated globally on Tuesday, October 11. Founded on the idea that increased visibility leads to decreased bias, this day encourages members of the LGBTQ+ community to come out and live their true identity. We want to acknowledge that there are many reasons that people may not be “out.” Society is not always a safe and welcoming place. Coming out is brave and freeing, but can be difficult.

On October 11, we recognize all those who live their lives openly, proudly, and without shame. We celebrate the LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and administrators who make our college a more inclusive and equitable place.

October Mental Health Events

The start of October means the fall season is upon us. The magic of the season shows us how beautiful it can be to let things go that no longer serve us. During this time, it’s important to reflect on what burdens, barriers, and blockages we should allow to “fall” away. To support you in these efforts, Los Rios' Center for Mental Health and Wellness is hosting three virtual workshops to educate, inform, and empower you to make the changes you desire. Click on the workshop title below for more information and the Zoom login.

Late-Start Classes Start This Week

The fall semester is nearly halfway through! Just a reminder that the second 8-week (8W2) term starts Thursday, October 14. There are still open "late-start" classes, but students need to act now to enroll

Upcoming Fire Drills

  • Buckeye Hall/FL3
  • Cypress Hall/FL2
  • Dogwood Hall/FL4

During the drills, the Los Rios Police Department and college officials will assist you with exiting the building, assembling a safe distance away, waiting while the building is reviewed, and giving you the all-clear to reenter the building. Depending on what buildings you may be in throughout the day, you may be participating in multiple drills. For more information, visit the Evacuation Procedures webpage.

Please note that drills might be postponed or rescheduled because of weather or other factors. Fire drills for the El Dorado Center and Rancho Cordova Center are planned for Spring 2023. Thank you for your participation and support!
