Massachusetts is the place to be for Independence Day, with hundreds of parades and fireworks, concerts and cookouts and special commemorations to celebrate the Bay State's role in the birth of America. 

Also this month, you'll find plenty of music, cultural performances, art exhibits, food festivals and beer gardens to enjoy - indoors or outdoors. Visit one of our 78 coastal communities to enjoy beaches, whale watching, fishing and sailing, and to sample our amazing fresh seafood. Head inland to hike mountains, drive down country roads, visit farms, or learn about local history.

Featured Region: MetroWest

July in MetroWest starts off with a bang as Franklin hosts its annual 4th of July Carnival July 3-7! The carnival kicks off July 3 with a live concert by Backyard Swagger, and the celebration of food, music, and family fun culminates with Franklin's famous fireworks display on July 6. To further stimulate the senses, Natick will be holding its 12th annual Art Walk on July 18 with live music, food, and demos from 70+ local artists on the sidewalks throughout downtown. And thanks to the generosity of the Highland Street Foundation, admission to The Gardens at Elm Bank in Wellesley is free on Friday, July 26! Enjoy garden tours and special kids' activities all day.

Nantucket Island

There is much more than the beach on Nantucket in July! North of Boston
The Marblehead Festival of Arts on July 4-7 hosts a wide range of art exhibits, outdoor music concerts overlooking Marblehead Harbor, Film, Street and Children's Festivals, Artisans' Marketplace and many other cultural activities designed to provide a fun and enriching experience for the entire family. Northshore Music Theatre presents Disney's "Freaky Friday" July 9-21, a musical comedy where a mother and teenage daughter magically spend a day in each other's shoes. Celebrating 10 years of excellence, style and elegance, the Misselwood Concours d'Elegance, July 19-21, is considered to be one of the most scenic Concours shows in the country. Plymouth County

The Onset Summer of Love Concert Series will be held every Wednesday evening through August 28 from 6:30 to 9 p.m at the Onset Bandshell, across from the Town Pier on Onset Avenue. FREE and kid/pet-friendly! The lineup for July includes: July 3, Way Up South; July 10, 57 Heavy; July 17, Dave Richardson Band; July 24, Shattered; July 31, Marcus Monteiro Quartet. Southeastern Mass

Looking for Fourth of July fireworks displays? Stop by the Battleship Cove for a special celebration! Battleship Cove, located in Fall River, will be having a firework spectacular from the deck of the USS Massachusetts BB59. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased from Battle Ship Cove's museum gift shop. Gates open at 7:30 pm. Bags and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. The Berkshires

Fall in love with nature at Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Lenox. With seven miles of trails, including a summit hike and an accessible trail to beautiful Pike's pond, adult and family education programs, and canoe trips, Pleasant Valley has something for everyone! Join us for the Trailside Music Series, three FREE concerts in a beautiful, natural setting. July 12 is bluegrass-centric Picky B's, July 31 we welcome Billy Keane and Tory Hanna of the Americana-Rock group Whiskey Treaty Roadshow, and August 10 is blues-rock The Amy Ryan Band.

Greater Merrimack Valley

The Merrimack Valley's biggest event returns for its 33rd year! The Lowell Folk Festival takes place July 26-28 in downtown Lowell. This festival gives attendees a chance to celebrate traditions, whether that means sampling from over 20 different traditional cuisines, learning from master craft artists, or listening to traditional musicians brought to Lowell from all around the world!  This family friendly festival has something for everyone, so come celebrate your traditions with us!

Central Massachusetts

It's officially summer, so come celebrate in Central Mass! Ring in the Fourth of July with dozens of concerts, bonfires and fireworks. Ignite your inner child with an admission-free Salute to Disney, hosted by Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra. Road tripping? Discover the charming town of Sturbridge. Start by traveling back in time at Old Sturbridge Village, or discover a local brewery in the area. This Sturbridge Summer Fun Itinerary is sure to inspire!

Franklin County
Green River Festival will be held July 12-14 at Greenfield Community College Campus! This is Western Massachusetts' signature summer event every July, with an outrageous celebration of world class music, great local food, beer & wine, a handmade craft fair, and family activities. We top it off with a Saturday night hot air balloon glow. This year's festival features Lucinda Williams, Angelique Kidjo, The Wood Brothers and dozens more. Over 30 bands on four stages! Greater Boston
Boston still pops all through July! Harborfest and the Fireworks Spectacular were just the beginning! Concerts can be heard across the city. Pack a picnic, spread the blanket and enjoy family outdoor movies. Passports aren't required to travel to the multitude of cross-cultural festivals all summer long. The Greenway beckons with all sorts of entertainment - from art installations and outdoor beer & wine gardens to carousel rides, tango lessons and open-air markets. Head out on a whale watch, sunset cruise or day exploring the Harbor Islands. Ride a duck boat or Swan Boat, or pedal your way across the city. Take a food tour, history tour, movie tour or simply walk the Public Garden, along the Esplanade or Harborwalk. Six-time Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen evokes a touching portrayal of young love and the search for acceptance in today's world. The Bard entertains on Boston Common with the mystical dramedy Cymbeline, and spend time with the Crawley family at Downtown Abbey: The Exhibition.

Cape Cod
Hydrangeas are the signature flower of Cape Cod, and the annual Cape Cod Hydrangea Fest will celebrate these beautiful blue, pink and white blooms at their peak! Tour some of Cape Cod's most spectacular private gardens during the 10-day garden celebration, happening July 12-21. Highlights include private garden tours benefiting local nonprofits, workshops presented by leading international horticulturalists, a hydrangea-inspired Cocktail Trail, and other special hydrangea-themed events & promotions. Greater Springfield
For those un-sunny days in the summer months, there is always art exhibits to keep the mind exhilarated! The Springfield Armory will host the new exhibit "Art in the Every day: A Photographer's Perspective at Springfield Armory" exhibit happening now until July 7, 2019.  The museum collection holds thousands of photographs that feature the people, experiments, and factory work at Springfield Armory from the late 1800s through the 1960s.

Hampshire County
In summer, stroll through any of our delightful downtowns and you'll discover your next musical adventure. Fridays throughout the summer, join the Northampton Arts Council for vinyl-only DJ spinning, live bands, and salsa dancing in Pulaski Park in downtown Northampton. Head to the Pines Theatre at Look Memorial Park in Florence for a night with Dinosaur Jr. and Kurt Vile and the Violators on July 28 or catch Aimee Mann at the historic Academy of Music. Come to the Other Side of Massachusetts for the sweet summer tunes you've been searching for.

Summer days are invitations to get outdoors, for hiking, swimming, playing ball...and eating! Think beyond the backyard dogs and burgers: Check out the food trucks at Fitchburg's Civic Days Block Party on July 3 or the GALA Music & Arts Festival in Winchendon on July 20; fruity goodies at the Blueberry Jamboree in Phillipston on July 20; or everyone's all-time favorite comfort food at the Mac n Cheese Festival in Templeton on July 13!

Martha's Vineyard

Mohawk Trail Region
Visit the Village of Shelburne Falls, home of the world-famous Bridge of Flowers, the glacial potholes, myriad art galleries, excellent restaurants and shops and fabulous events! The magic of Shelburne Falls brings visitors back again and again. This summer, experience the 41st Bridge of Flowers Classic Road Race (attracting over 1,000 participants) on August 10, and the festive and homegrown 19th Iron Bridge Dinner on August 18!
