"
When you are trying to figure out the right thing to do, you are in the thinking mind. You have set up a duality between what is right and what is wrong, with the implication that if you don't pick the correct option, you'll be screwing up. But in reality, you can't screw up. Whatever you pick will produce a set of life experiences that will continue to reveal you to you, whether the content of what happens is pleasant to go through or miserable. All of it contains food for your growth. The part of you that's trying to determine what's correct is lost in appearances, whereas the nutrients for self-understanding lie in that vast ocean of peace beneath the surface. Rest assured that the lessons you need WILL present themselves, requiring absolutely no effort on your part other than your attention."
~Sarah Susanka - The Not So Big Life

I've been sharing this quote in my classes this week along with a story about a lesson in self-understanding that I experienced last weekend. I know that I'm not alone in thinking that MY WAY of doing things is the best way. I justify those actions to myself (and sometimes to others) again and again.

That's all well and good until you have a good friend essentially hold up a mirror to your actions and say " Kristi, why are you making your life harder than it needs to be!?

And it's not that I hadn't heard this before (about the same thing, mind you), but I wasn't ready to hear it then. I wasn't ready to acknowledge that there could be a different way to do something. And, (eek!) perhaps a BETTER way.

Sometimes, if you are like me, we need to hear things over and over again until we finally bring our full attention to them... and only then we can be open to their lessons.

Food for your growth... sometimes it's a piece of humble pie.

Namaste,
Kristi
