THE FOOD INNOVATION CENTER AT RUTGERS

Welcome back! We’re excited that fall is here.

We’re currently in the midst of judging this year’s entries in the Specialty Food Association’s annual Sofi Awards, which honor the best in specialty foods. We’re extremely proud to offer our sensory expertise to the Association, and to serve as judges for this prestigious event.

Earlier this the summer we hosted our annual New Jersey FoodTech conference on campus, in partnership with Middlesex County and the NJEDA. Check out our newly-launched YouTube channel for some insightful videos, including discussion this year’s theme: Collaborate to Innovate. 300 entrepreneurs, investors, creators and thought leaders came together at this year’s event, seeking to drive innovation forward through collaboration. Now we’re planning next summer’s conference, so stay tuned for updates.

Please join us in welcoming our two new externs from the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. In our engagements with both clients and students, the experiential quality of the FIC continues to be at the forefront of our mission.

My name is Nana Appiakubi, and I am a first year student at Rutgers University majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Nutrition.

I’m passionate about women’s health, and aspire to become an OB-GYN in the future. This internship is an exciting opportunity for me to build skills and experiences that will support my career goals.

Outside of academics, I enjoy watching anime, and exploring new ways to connect with my interests.

My name is Jackson Kehler, I am a senior here at Rutgers, and I am proud to join the Rutgers Food Innovation Center as their newest intern. I am currently enrolled in SEBS studying biological sciences, and I am set to graduate at the end of the semester. I am a third generation Rutgers student and a lifelong fan, so you can expect to find me watching the game on Saturdays. I grew up in Westfield New Jersey, and a fun fact about me is that I am a triplet. I am excited for the opportunity to learn from this internship, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team. Go Knights.

We are also excited to get underway with a new mentorship project with the Master of Business and Sciences teams. We have learned invaluable lessons through the Externship exchange, truly bridging the gap between industry and academia.
