Food Related License Ordinance Date Change
Message From BSEED, Licensing, and Permits Division.
"As part of our continuous improvement processes, the Buildings, Safety Engineering Department (BSEED) through our Licensing and Permits division is proposing to amend the expiration date and renewal requirements for all food related ordinances of the 2019 Detroit City Code. The Department seeks to change the expiration date of licenses issued under each division to May 31 of each year. As such, BSEED anticipates a significant increase in business license renewal for food related licenses as the Detroit Health Department (DHD) clearance approvals will increase. As part of DHD’s clearance approval, the State of Michigan Food Service License which expires April 30, must be issued to the establishment. The recommended change in licenses expiration to May 31 will allow for the state’s licenses to be issued prior to being required by BSEED."
