Consumers are already seeing empty shelves in certain areas of the US due to the ongoing supply chain implications of the pandemic on labor shortages, food processing, manufacturing, and delivery; and now, with the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine consumers and industries alike know the situation will only grow worse especially after President Biden made it clear Americans need to brace for food shortages this year. And with rising inflation, it’s a trifecta.
According to forecasts by the US Department of Agriculture, domestic protein production (beef, pork, chicken and turkey) should increase slightly in 2022 compared with 2021, and there may be a 2% decline in beef and pork production while chicken production may increase by 1%.
