September 29, 2020

Dear friends,
Tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 30, my office will distribute boxes of meals for District 3 seniors age 60+ and individuals with disabilities of any age. Advance reservations are now closed, but we will have a limited number extra boxes available first-come-first-served beginning at 9:30am at the New Carrollton Municipal Building, 6016 Princess Garden Parkway.

Thanks to more than a dozen volunteers, many from Kaiser Permanente, we will deliver boxes of meals to more than 200 individuals unable to pick them up. Thank you volunteers!

Wells Run Upstream Storm Water Improvement Project Update

More than 10 years ago, residents In University Park spearheaded an idea to improve upstream storm water management. Most developments built 40+ years ago have little or no storm water management and include a lot of impervious surfaces. The idea was investigated, reports produced, and now the County, in coordination with the land agent, Bald Eagle Partners, and Soltesz engineering team, is poised to deliver this project via the Department of the Environment and the CleanWater Partnership managed by Corvias.

Council Member Deni Taveras and I are hosting a Community Update on this project with the Prince George's County Department of the Environment and Corvias tomorrow, Wednesday, September 30, at 7:00 pm. Register online:

Rand Report - Laying the Groundwork for a Health In All Policy Plan

Today the Prince George's County Council was briefed on a comprehensive report which was initiated when I was Chair of the Council two years ago. This assessment reviewed the health and human services needs in Prince George's County to support an integrated health in all policy plan for the County.  Learn more in this Washington Post article. View the PowerPoint briefing here. The briefing was streamed live and the archived video will be available in the next two days here. I have long argued that we must invest more of our own County funds in health and human services in the County. This report underscores the challenges we face today due to long term underfunding. It also lays out the steps we need to take to improve healthy outcomes for all of our residents.

Virtual Connection with Interim Police Chief Velez

Thank you to everyone who joined me for my Virtual Connections forum with Interim Police Chief Hector Velez on September 13. If you missed it or would like to watch it again, you can view it here.

General Election

I've heard from some residents of Prince George's County that those who requested mail-in ballots are starting to receive them. If you have questions about voting, the answer can likely be found in my Virtual Connections forum with Board of Elections Administrator Alisha Alexander earlier this month. Watch the recording here.

The State Board of Elections has announced ballot drop box locations. Those in or near Council District 3 residents include: Northwestern High School, Parkdale High School, the Pavilion at the University of Maryland Xfinity Center, and the Wayne K. Curry Sports and Learning Complex. Learn more and view all locations here.

Census 2020

This is our LAST CHANCE to ensure everyone in our community is counted for the 2020 Census. With court appeals back and forth it is imperative that anyone who has not completed the Census do so today. Visit today. Remember you do NOT have to have your Census ID. Will you take one minute to ask a friend, neighbor or family member if they've completed the Census? Every person counted brings more than $18,000 back to Prince George's County!

As always, feel free to reach out to a member of my District 3 team or me if we can help you in any way. I am sharing updates regularly on social media, especially my Facebook page.  #onlytogether
