When we buy food, we take it on faith that the product matches the label. Recent revelations that many honey products may be adulterated have left many questioning this trust. While the impacted producers are still disputing the results of the report, this scandal highlights a bigger issue costing industry and consumers billions and potentially putting consumers at risk — food fraud.
AEVOO info for chefs … Everyday
A new webpage specifically for chefs and the hospitality trade has just gone live on the Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Everyday site. Providing information on Australian EVOO and downloadable fact sheets on AEVOO quality, health benefits and cooking versatility, the page also has videos of great AEVOO recipes from top chefs. The webpage is just one of a number of resources being created by the olive levy funded Olive oil in food service program (OL16004) to increase the awareness of AEVOO among food service professionals. New education tools help stop pests at our seaports
Stevedores, wharf workers and truck drivers who work with imported cargo have a key role in protecting against exotic pests that can arrive at our seaports. Many pests can hitchhike their way into Australia on or in shipping containers, or hidden in break bulk cargo like cars and machinery. To help seaport workers identify and report any biosecurity concerns, the department has released a new cargo pests education video and pocket-sized cargo pests guide. Read more here.

The new Olive Wellness Institute Event Kit for olive growers and processors is now live on the website, providing factual, user-friendly resources to use at events or local farmers markets.
Resources include posters, leaflets on the Health Benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Cooking with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and a FAQ booklet containing evidence-based facts and answers to questions commonly asked about EVOO – download here and find other grower dedicated resources here.

Spain's largest olive oil co-operative and its Moroccan partner have acquired 20 percent of the company partially responsible for U.S. tariffs on Spanish olives in an effort to avoid paying them.
Coconut oil is under attack. Once hailed as a miraculous superfood, its reputation has been more than a little bruised after a Harvard professor described the substance as “pure poison”. To remove any doubt about her feelings, Karin Michels, an epidemiologist, added that coconut oil is “one of the worst things you can eat”.
