Did you Know...
Tight shoes or socks, or incorrect nail trimming are the most common causes of ingrown toenails in children. When the nail breaks the skin, serious infections can result. Parents should never try to dig the nail out at home; treatment by a doctor is advised.

Avoid Chronic Ankle Instability

With the warm spring weather many of us enjoy getting out for a walk around the neighborhood, hiking, or other outdoor jogging-women.jpg activities. Ankle sprains are one of the most common sports injuries. Prompt evaluation and treatment by a foot and ankle surgeon is important... sometimes that "sprain" is actually an ankle fracture and treatment for these two conditions are very different. And don't skimp on rehab! An ankle that has not been properly healed and strengthened is more likely to suffer repeated sprains, leading to chronic ankle instability.

Something to Talk About: Cracked Heels

Along with being unattractive, cracked heels can be a source of pain and embarrassment. If you get regular pedicures it's not likely that you have painful, cracked heels. However, it is a problem for many people. There are several causes of cracked heels including aging, excess weight, and/or health issues such as diabetes, kidney problems, thyroid disease, or vitamin deficiency. It is important to remember that your skin is the largest organ in the body so when it's compromised you open yourself up to the risk of infection and disease.

So what can you do? First of all, getting regular pedicures is essential to getting your heels under control. Secondly, using a good lotion for home maintenance is key. At Foot & Ankle Centers and the Nail Spa at FAC we sell KERA-42? Cream. KERA-42 CREAM is only available at a physician's office. It is a safe, effective, medical strength, keratolytic, and moisturizing urea-based formulation essential for calloused, rough, dry skin. KERA-42 CREAM exfoliates dead skin cells while restoring moisture to the new cell layer, providing an optimal environment for healthy skin. It contains tea tree oil, aloe vera, and antioxidants that provide additional hydration to damaged, rough, and dry skin. For best results, it is to be applied directly after showering, use once or twice daily. It is available at our office and spa for $40.

So if you've been waiting until now to take care of your feet don't wait any longer! Sandal season is here so call our office at 615.425.0668 today to schedule your pedicure. You can also submit an online appointment request CLICK HERE.

If you have tried pedicures and appropriate lotions then your cracked heels may require a prescription strength formulation so you can make an appointment with Dr. Cohen or Dr. Bush on our medical side (call 615.662.6676 or click HERE for a medical appointment).
