Zoom Webinar - LIVE

Join WLT staff and special guests as we share book recommendations based on what we're reading now.

Who knows, maybe you're next favorite read is just a live webinar away!

We're hosting a live webinar tonight (Tuesday, March 24) where WLT staff (plus special guest Richard Santos) will be sharing what they're reading now. We'll be giving away some books to a few lucky participants (even better, you get to pick the indie bookstore we'll order them from!).

PLUS: We'd love to have members of the community join in and recommend some books.  Fill out this form  if you are reading something right now (or recently) that you want to spread the good word about.
Let's create the biggest shared reading list we can!

RSVP and we'll send you a link to join the webinar. And yes, this is FREE AND OPEN TO ALL. Spread the word!

Applications now open for the Bess Whitehead Scott Scribes Scholarship!

Since 1991, the Bess Whitehead Scott Scholarship Fund has awarded annual scholarships to aspiring journalists and writers. The scholarship program was named for one of the state’s pioneering women in journalism, Bess Whitehead Scott, who died in 1997 at age 107. She had a celebrated career in newspaper reporting, teaching and advertising and continued writing as a freelancer past her 100th year.

In 2019, the Headliners Foundation of Texas partnered with the Bess Whitehead Scott Fund to incorporate the Bess Whitehead Scott Scribes Scholarship into our existing portfolio of journalism scholarships. We are pleased to announce that in 2020, the Foundation will award the $3,000 Bess Whitehead Scott scholarship to a qualified recipient applying directly through the Headliners Foundation.

This year, the Headliners Foundation is proud to continue the longstanding tradition of the BWS Scholarship Fund to benefit the non-traditional student who is seeking education in fields related to journalism and writing. Whether they already have an established career or simply wish to make a change, these applicants demonstrate an interest in pursuing a degree or career advancement through academic study in journalism, communication or a related field. When reviewing the BWS Scholarship applications, the Headliners Foundation’s Academic Excellence Committee will give strong preference to applicants with 10-15 years of professional work experience in journalism, nonfiction writing or a related field.

DEADLINE: March 27, 2020
