October 27, 2020
Hello, writers!

November is just around the corner and, as has become our custom for the last several years, we're hoping to spend some extra time with you.

Before the sun sets on 2020 (which we know can't come soon enough for many), let's gather virtually throughout the month of November - ten days, thirteen group writing opportunities, one big marathon day of writing at the end - and commit to our writing, make some serious headway on our current projects, and enjoy some awesome togetherness with our wonderful community.

We've created a schedule of write-in events - dates and times listed below. All you have to do is RSVP for the ones that work for you - and show up. And make good use of the time. And support your fellow writers. And remind yourself you're not in this alone.

Whether you're participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) or just looking for a little inspiration and motivation, we hope to see you early and often in November.

Let's do this.

"Character Development in Memoir: How to Deepen the Story"
with Charlotte Gullick
Wednesday, October 28
6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. CDT
$49 for members / $109 for nonmembers

When writing memoir, it’s essential to explore how character development contributes to a compelling narrative.

This class will provide multiple opportunities for participants to consider how change and curiosity relate to character development for the narrator as well as the other individuals in the story. We will explore the roles of research, rumination, and empathy as they add meaning and layers to our personal journeys. We will read, write, discuss, imagine, connect, and grow. Instruction will include lecture, writing prompts, conversation, reflection, and confidence-building exercises.

Registration closes on Wednesday, October 28 at 5 pm CDT.
"Getting Started or Restarted: A Writer's Guide to Moving Forward"
with Faylita Hicks
Saturday, October 31
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. CDT
$49 for members / $109 for nonmembers

Open to writers at every level, this class will help you find new inspiration in early drafts and find your voice on the page. While many writing classes and workshops focus in depth on one specific aspect of craft, this class looks to offer a variety of ways writers can begin, return to, jump start, engage with and find the joy in their writing process.

Registration closes on Friday, October 30 at 5 pm CDT.
Movie Night, Take 2!
All WLT Members Are Invited!

This October, we want to explore some terror and fear in our cinema. To that end, we decided to attempt horror three ways. First, through Rebecca, the newest film incarnation of the du Maurier novel, we get the classic Gothic horror—big house, spooky happenings. Next, in Hubie Halloween, Adam Sandler returns to form after his serious role in Uncut Gems to give us a more comedic take on Halloween and horror. Finally in Unfriended, we get the a normal horror movie told through webcam footage—the same pitch we all made at the start of quarantine.

Think about what you want to watch and join us THIS Thursday, October 29th at 8:00 p.m. CDT on Zoom.

You can find the link to the Zoom Meeting in the Members Monthly email sent on October 1 or by emailing member@writersleague.org.
