Volume 8 Issue 5

We have finished collecting family information sheets, ASQ-3 screenings and transitions plans so what happens next?  Teachers take all of that information and begin adjusting lesson plans to meet the needs of each student.  As the teachers deliver their lessons, they observe.  Observation is the main form of assessment at the preschool level.  Teachers are trained to notice the actions of students while simultaneously knowing what developmental level those actions and behaviors fall into.  The assessment that we use is called TSG-Gold and it is based off of the Ohio Department of Education's Preschool Standards and Ohio's Early Learning Assessment.  We also assess over and above the standards with items that will help your child be prepared for Kindergarten.  You will receive a report just before November conferences that will allow you to see the progress that your child has made.  During conferences you can review and discuss the report card, ASQ-3 screening, transition plans and goals that have been set for your child.  Please know that you can request a conference at any time prior to scheduled conferences.

To avoid overcrowding in the main lot on 10/12/22 please follow these  pickup times: PK1, PK3, & PK5 dismiss between  11:50-12:00PK2 & PK4 dismiss between 12:00-12:10 PM

IF YOU ARRIVE EARLY-PARK IN THE MIDDLE UNTIL YOUR ASSIGNED TIME

Picture day will be on 10/25 or 10/26 for your child.  Picture day assignments will be posted on main doors & outside of the classrooms when we get closer to picture time.   Once you receive a picture form, complete it and return it to school with your choice of background.  You will receive a proof back.  When you get the proof it will have package prices and methods of ordering.  Picture day is a fundraising opportunity for the school.

Welcome new student My'Ora to PS1 and welcome Brianna to PK4

A new practice that we are implementing this year that you may have noticed or heard about is our Safe Keeper Ritual. The brain functions optimally when a person feels safe. The basic job description for a teacher in a Conscious Discipline classroom is “My job is to keep the class safe.” The children’s job is “To help keep the class safe.” The principal is the Safekeeper of the school.

Safekeeper Rituals look different in different classrooms. One of the most common Safekeeper rituals involves each child selecting or creating an item that represents him or herself (a cutout, a photo glued to a popsicle stick, a small toy, etc.). Each morning the teacher states the Safekeeper job description and asks the children to commit to keeping the class safe by putting their item in a decorated Safekeeper box.  This also helps a support a child's development in the area of understanding community, expectations and goal setting.
