WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Task Force and Steering Committee members are wearing their “Ask Me About the Block“ pins every Sunday. Find one before or after service — your questions and ideas are always welcome.

A SUMMER WELL SPENT.

This is the last edition of our summer series — and before we look ahead, we want to pause and recognize what this community has accomplished.

Over the past eight weeks, you have shown up. You've read these letters, asked questions, spoken with committee members, and brought your hopes and concerns into the open.

Here is the church. Here is the steeple. Open the doors — and here are the people.

We recalled the classic nursery rhyme in one of our first missives, and that is what this summer has been. A community of faith, doing what communities of faith do: showing up for one another, asking hard questions, and trusting that the Spirit is at work in the conversation.

This discernment didn't begin this summer. It began in 2018, with a question: How is God calling us to be the church in this place, for the generations to come? Eight years later, hundreds of parishioners later, thousands of hours of listening later — we are close. Not done. But close.

The people working behind the scenes — the Egleston Task Force, the Block Development Steering Committee, North Ave, Perkins&Will, and the Vestry — have given themselves to this work with care and dedication. As the summer draws to a close, you will begin to see the fruits of that labor.

WHAT WE ARE EXCITED ABOUT

As we move into the next chapter, here is what has us looking forward with hope:

People at the center.

Every decision being made is being made with people in mind — the parishioners, staff, neighbors, and strangers who walk through these doors today and for the next hundred years. That has been the north star of this entire process, and it remains so.

A community that gathers.

All Saints' has always been a place where community gathers — and the vision before us asks how we take that gift and make it even more luminous for the people of this Block and the city at large.

An invitation, not just an entrance.

One of the most compelling ideas to emerge from this process is the vision of a new welcome, the second front door. As we all know, this is not just a door, but an invitation. A presence on our corner that says to the whole neighborhood: you are welcome here. That vision lives in every scenario under consideration, and it will shape whatever comes next.

Parishioners and ministries, in community.

Threads. Refugee Ministry. Covenant Community. MAC.

What makes these ministries extraordinary is what they do and who does them. All Saints' parishioners, giving their time, their talents, and their presence alongside ministry staff to neighbors who need them most.

A future we are planting for others.

The decisions made in the coming weeks will shape All Saints' for generations. We will not all see the fullness of what is being built. But we will have been part of building it — and that is one of the most faithful things a community like ours can do.

THE WORK THAT HAS BROUGHT US HERE

None of this happened quickly. We know there is “Block Fatigue.” Here is what your fellow parishioners have given to get us to this moment:

  • Eight years of listening, learning, and discernment
  • Parish surveys, town halls, and community forums
  • Strategic plans, task force reports, and a master plan adopted by the Vestry
  • A rigorous architect and project management selection process
  • Structural assessments, engineering studies, and parishioner tours
  • Regular meetings between the Task Force, North Ave, and Perkins&Will
  • A range of design scenarios, each thoroughly priced and evaluated
  • And this summer — eight weeks of honest, transparent communication with you

We worked the question as hard as we could. And we did it together.

WHAT COMES NEXT

Over the remaining weeks of summer, the Egleston Task Force will bring its recommendation to the Vestry. The Vestry will make the final decision.

As we wait, we celebrate. We celebrate the sacred commons that All Saints' already is — the intergenerational community, the ministries, the music, the welcome that has defined this corner of Atlanta for over a century. The next series of communications will hold all of that up to the light, as we move together toward what comes next.
