FOR COMMISSIONERS ONLY
November 2020
Good afternoon CAAHEP Commissioners,

We hope that this finds you all well. We are pleased to report that through all of the challenges in 2020, CAAHEP and the Committees on Accreditation have been successful in continuing to provide accreditation services to allied health education programs. As programs were tasked with moving from classroom to online education, the CoAs shifted right along with them to providing virtual site visits and practicing flexibility while still ensuring that programs meet CAAHEP Standards.

At the CAAHEP level, we concentrated our efforts in supporting the CoAs. We instituted monthly online meetings to talk through the challenges CoAs were facing, share success stories, and brainstorm to overcome roadblocks. These "CoA Connections" sessions have been very popular and have provided extra support to the CoAs. In addition, we've broadened our technology subscriptions to provide access to Zoom meetings and webinars, where CoAs host education sessions with program directors as well as conducting virtual site visits.

In the time of giving thanks, this year CAAHEP is very thankful for our sponsoring organizations that support our Committees on Accreditation as well as CAAHEP. Together, we will do great things in 2021.

On behalf of the CAAHEP Board of Directors, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Staff safe and be well.

Kathy

Executive Director
2021 Annual Meeting
The 2021 CAAHEP Annual Meeting will take place on Friday, January 22, 2021, via Zoom. This is the first year that we have separated the Annual Meeting from the Business Meeting of the Commission (see related article below). In addition to a Washington Update, a session on Educating the Next Generation of Healthcare Providers, and a COVID-19 Update Panel with Committees on Accreditation, CAAHEP will be presenting the William W. Goding Award for Exceptional Services. There will also be a special CoA recognition program spotlighting individuals that work with the CoAs in support of accreditation of allied health programs. The 2021 Annual Meeting agenda is provided for your review, and all information is posted on the CAAHEP website. 2021 CAAHEP Business Meeting of the Commission
The 2021 Commissioners Business Meeting will be held virtually on Friday, April 16, 2021, at 3:00 PM Eastern. Please mark your calendar to attend this important meeting. As a reminder, the role of a Commissioner is to:

  • approve bylaws, mission, and vision statements of CAAHEP;
  • determine whether an occupation is eligible to participate in the CAAHEP system;
  • approve new sponsoring organizations and Committees on Accreditation;
  • monitor the Board of Directors' development of accreditation standards and activities to assure the quality and equity of CAAHEP's accreditation practices;
  • and seek to achieve national recognition as an accrediting agency through appropriate national and/or international recognized agencies as deemed necessary.

While not all of these items are scheduled to be addressed at this meeting, it is important to represent your organization's interests in the accreditation of educational programs and provide input. A meeting agenda will be sent to Commissioners in early February 2021, along with the registration information for the online meeting.
