Horizon Behavioral Health opens first Project LINK site in the Lynchburg area.

Lynchburg, VA – Horizon Behavioral Health has been awarded $670,522 by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) to be administered over a four year period to provide intensive case management and home visiting services to pregnant and parenting women who are “at risk” or are diagnosed with a substance use disorder. The overarching goal of the Project LINK program is the establishment of a coordinated “system” of care for women who use substances. This will be the first Project LINK site of its kind in the Lynchburg area. The Project LINK site will be located at 2305 Lansdown Place, Lynchburg, VA 24501.

This Project LINK site will provide intensive outreach case management, home visitation and support services to women and their families. Participants are also linked to substance use treatment, mental health, medical and other social services available in the community. Services provided by or coordinated through Project LINK include substance abuse prevention and treatment, family planning, prenatal care, well-baby care, general health care, developmental screening, assessment and intervention, family services, child protective services, foster care, parenting education, and public education.

“Having a Project LINK site in Central Virginia will allow us to reduce barriers to services for substance-using women and their families. It’s an opportunity to wrap treatment and supportive services around the whole family with the goal of keeping the family together,” shares Rhonda Turner, Program Manager at Horizon Behavioral Health.

Horizon is grateful to community partners such as the Department of Social Services and Centra Healthcare among other agencies serving this population, who are working together to utilize and expand the existing Community Coalition on Maternal Substance Use.
