NBMDA Releases Q1 Industry Reports
CHICAGO  ---   The North American Building Material Distribution Association (NBMDA) is highlighting five recently-released industry reports for Q1 of 2019.
  • In the Spring 2019 Quarterly Economic Trend Report, highlights include: (1) The U.S. Industrial Producton business cycle will trend downward into at least late 2019, (2) Expect decline in U.S. Industrial Producton and U.S. Nondefense Capital Goods New Orders (excluding aircraft) to take hold in the second half of 2019 and extend into early 2020, and (3) Expect growth for the remainder of 2020. While the decline will likely be mild and manageable, those with firms that move coincident with the economy will need to exercise self-discipline.
  • In the Homecenter Industry Update, highlights include (1) The unfavorable weather across most regions in the US looks to have been a significant limiting factor in the first half of Q1, (2) Sales are expected to shift out of Q1 and into Q2 to reflect the impact of a later than expected Spring selling season, and (3) Home Depot continues to execute at a high level, but the approach to inventory has been more measured over the last 30 days. 
  • In the Industrial Distribution Update, highlights include (1) March sales across our industry survey were reported up 7 percent vs 6 percent in February, (2) Pricing was reported up 1.1 percent vs up 1.5 percent in February, with overall price realization disappointing relative to broader inflation, and (3) the 2019 outlook was again unchanged at up 7 percent, inline with estimates for the group.
  • In the Non-Residential Construction Update, highlights include (1) Stable near-term project activity with growth still trending up 3-5 percent driven by strength in institutional demand, (2) The 2019 outlook remains unchanged with expectations for low-single-digit growth, and (3) Labor shortages continue to be a headwind as capacity constraints appear to limit activity. 
  • The April 2019 Transportation Trend Analysis from the Cleveland Research Company provides you will new insights on U.S. trucking, rail and global airfreight and containerized ocean traffic.
