Lemurs running lose in a Texas town!

Monday we were called by an animal control agency, in partnership with US Fish and Wildlife. Lemurs had been loose for weeks and they were catching them 1 by 1.

While these are not what our new habitat was built for, we made modifications to be able to hold them. We made contact with our peers and have found permanent placement for the Lemurs.

Leaping Lemurs...

Yesterday, we received 9 Lemurs from US Fish and Wildlife. They will stay here for 2-3 weeks while we make sure everyone is healthy. They will be TB tested, get a fecal tested for parasites and receive health certificates to move on to their permanent home. The 2 are in the smaller cage because of a tail injury on the one and this is her baby. She's receiving pain meds and antibiotics and will be released back with the rest of the troop once healed. The rest of the troop comes inside to hang out with them.

Your donations made an impact!

Finding placement for a troop of Lemurs is no easy feat. Through our network we were able to do that. Because of your donations, we have this (currently) open habitat while we wait on the other government agency to finish going through what they need to to seize the animal meant for this habitat. Because of you we were able to say yes, to hold these 9 and get them off to better lives!

Primate Public Safety Act!

Primates running loose in the US isn’t rare. It isn’t accidental. It’s systemic.

Breeders and dealers continue to mislead the public into believing that wild, highly intelligent, deeply social animals can be treated like domesticated pets.

At the same time, for-profit facilities fuel demand through public encounters, photo ops, and hands-on experiences — normalizing private ownership while ignoring:

-Lifelong psychological suffering

-Serious public safety risks

-Conservation harm

There is a solution.

The bipartisan Captive Primate Safety Act (CPSA) would prohibit private possession of primates nationwide — protecting animals from exploitation while strengthening public safety. Individuals who already possess primates could keep them but would be required to register them so first responders and law enforcement are aware of their presence.

This is about prevention. Protection. Responsibility.

Write your lawmakers TODAY and urge them to support the Captive Primate Safety Act.

Wild animals belong in the wild — not in living rooms.

Humane World for Animals Makes It Easy! Click HERE to tell your elected officials that we need better laws protecting the public from deadly diseases and help stop the trafficking of these endangered species that is fueled by the exotic pet trade.

Social Media...

Fuels the trade. People are making hundreds of thousands of dollars on social media with their exotic pets. We ask that you keep scrolling or block those pages all together. Every view promotes them to move up in the algorithm and more adds be placed on their content fueling more videos to be created. Then it's a monkey see monkey do and the next monkey is smuggled in to be sold as a pet. A true sanctuary doesn't buy, sell, breed, trade, or use animals for entertainment.

Thank you for all of your continued support of our organization! Without you we couldn't have saved these lives. You can donate to cover the cost of their stay with us by clicking HERE and making a donation today! We don't receive any money from the Animal Control Agency or US Fish and Wildlife for them to stay here. Your donations make this happen!

Your support is so BEARY much appreciated! We are so thankful for you!
