Beloved Community,

The recent Supreme Court decision to revoke Roe V. Wade is heartbreaking and frankly a bold statement from our government saying: "The rights of women and girls do not matter in our country." We are disgusted. Also, while it is a slap in the face to what many would call slow progress for gender rights, we must continue to fight for what we know to be true; that men and women, boys and girls, and non-binary folk are created equal.

We want to assure you that we take the attack on abortion rights in our country as a motivating factor for our organization to continue the mentorship and advocacy of black and brown girls. As a result, and in the coming weeks, we will open up our mentor application process for the 2022-2023 school year. As in years past, we will be searching for a kind, committed, and positive role model who can show our community of high school students that we care.

Luckily, abortion is still legal in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia. While there is a nationwide ban on abortions, abortion policy is left up to state and local lawmakers. We have hope that the people we voted for in the primary election and will vote for in the upcoming mid-term election will do what is best for their constituents.
