Dear Maria Community,

We are looking forward to welcoming students back to campus for the fall semester in August of 2020, and we wanted to let you know that we are planning for the fall semester to proceed with classes beginning the week of August 31st.

The college administration and the Covid Task Force have been working on plans for a safe reopening of campus activities. These plans are in line with the New York guidelines for higher education, and more details will be released as they are finalized.

Since we are following Reopening New York and CDC guidelines for reopening safely, the experience in the fall will look different but will offer the same excellent Maria education. Guidelines are calling for:

·         Social distancing
·         Use of face coverings when in public areas
·         Continued good hand hygiene and sanitization procedures

In addition to continuing to provide a top-notch Maria education, the health and safety of our community is our top priority, and as such you’ll see that classes this fall will be utilizing technology, digital experiences, and remote learning more fully than in the past. There will be requirements and guidelines for ensuring that people coming to campus are healthy and symptom-free, and alternatives in place should anyone become ill, to help mitigate, to the extent possible, the consequences of falling behind in their coursework. As a commuter campus, Maria is in a unique position to continue to offer our classes, coursework, and advisement in a way that promotes the health and safety of our students and staff.

Should there be a need to return to fully remote classroom instruction, as there was in the spring, the college is prepared to make that shift with minimal disruption.

Student Support Services, including tutoring and accessibility services, are planning on operating both remotely and in-person for the fall semester. Remote options for tests and assessment are also being explored.

One thing is certain: Maria is 100% committed to the success of our students, and will work with each of you to ensure a positive educational experience. We are grateful for your cooperation as our community navigates these changes.

Stay safe and healthy, and we will see you in August!
