Crystal Springs

The newest release from Nellie's Never Enough Sox Club

image

image"Inspired by the luscious spring-like colors of this gorgeous yarn from Knitted Wit and named after Portland's famed rhododendron garden, these toe-up socks pack in as many floral motifs as they can! Budding lace twines up the front while umbrella-like branches
cascade down the back of the leg and onto the heel flap. The cuff is topped off by a lacy ruffle that's worked perpendicular to the leg of the sock. Between the colorful yarn and the engaging stitch patterns, these socks will not leave you uninspired!"
- Chrissy Gardiner

April brings us a new release from Nellie's Never Enough Socks Club. Designer Chrissy Gardiner created a lovely, intricate sock for Nellie, with a delightful stitch pattern running up the heel, and a delicate ruffled cuff. Toe-up, it's a stunner!

And the yarn's to die for. Knitted Wit's scrumptious Cashy Wool combines the ever-popular sock fiber, superwash merino wool, with a wickedly soft, extra large pop of cashmere (20%). Wow! Dyed in a frolicking blend of caramel, fuschia and cream exclusively for Nellie's Never Enough Socks Club, "Salty and Sweet" will make your mouth water, bringing back memories of a childhood ice cream Sundae on a warm Summer Day. Ultimate softness and whimsical colors – the ideal project to help you escape and put your hectic world on hold.

imageNot familiar with Nellie's Never Enough Socks Club? Every 3 months, Nellie delivers a sock knitting adventure – an exclusively designed pattern from a fabulous local designer, created in a spectacular yarn from one of our favorite Indy dyers, in a unique colorway fashioned just for her club. A sock knitting experience found only at For Yarn's Sake – fabulous colors and yarns being knit into magnificent socks by some of our absolute favorite local designers.

Nellie's theme is exotic new fibers, so watch for uber-soft yarns with touches of silk and cashmere. And extraordinary colors, from vibrant purples, mixed with eye-popping yellows and greens, to rich jewel tones and warmth inspiring pinks and earth tones. Simply stunning! Local and noted designers Sara Morris, Betsy McCarthy and our very own Anne Laird join Chrissy to round out the cast of players who'll take the gorgeous yarns from skein to sock in unique and challenging new ways. Both top-down and toe-up designs. Lovely lace. Twisting cables. Glimmering beads. A year not to be missed!

Each release can be purchased individually or as part of the 4-part annual club. Annual membership in Nellie's Never Enough Socks Club – Year 4 is still available, and just like last year, there are advantages to signing up. Membership is $130, so you receive a price break (individual kits sell for $35). Each annual member's kit will contain a very special added bonus not available to those buying each kit separately. And of course, you're guaranteed each of the 4 sock kits – sold individually, they sell out quickly. Membership is limited, so hurry and don't miss out. Sign up today!

Friday Knit-Along - April

The Batik Shawl
Designed by Kitman Figueroa

“There’s something timeless about sitting around with your fellow knitters and your works in progress. The warmth of a fire or a cup of tea, the clicking of needles, and the satisfaction of quiet talk - or no talk at all - has a completeness to it. Nothing more need be added.” - Larissa Brown

Join us every Friday from 4:30 to 6pm for a structured knit-along; an organized event where knitters get together, all working on a common project. Great fun, terrific company, and a sense of accomplishment. Not to be missed!

imageDuring April, join us as we tackle a lovely, Celtic inspired shawlette, Batik.
Twisting cables. Feminine lace. A gorgeous shell edging. Smashing!
And in the fashion color of the year, Emerald Green.
Come be part of the fun!

For Yarn's Sake classesThe Linen Stitch
Friday April 19, 2-4pm
Cathy Barkin
Learn the linen stitch while creating the beautiful Koigu Linen Stitch Scarf.
Sometimes referred to as the fabric stitch, this stitch simulates a woven fabric like linen
by alternating wrapped stitches over slip stitches.
The result is a dense fabric that is very sturdy and durable,
great for scarves, bags, and home dcor items such as placemats and table runners.
Students need to know how to cast on, knit and purl.

For Yarn's Sake classesContinental Knitting
Saturday April 20, 3-5pm
Melanie Rose

Attention all throwers! Our absolutely, hands down, most popular class is being offered again. Your chance to learn to 'pick' like the pros. What is Continental Knitting? Well, you hold the working yarn in your left rather than right hand; the motion of bringing the yarn forward with a needle held in the other hand is known as picking. Professional hand-knitters often prefer this method as it's more efficient and speedy, requiring fewer hand-motions per stitch. Being associated with Germany, Continental knitting became unpopular in English-speaking countries during World War II. Elizabeth Zimmermann later reintroduced the method in the United States. Thank you Elizabeth
! Students should know how to cast on, knit and purl.

For Yarn's Sake classesSchematic Knits
Saturday April 27, 3-5pm
Melanie Rose

Ever wonder what that stick figure drawing is in the corner of your pattern?
It's actually one of the most vital and information packed parts of the pattern: the schematic.
If you understand schematics, then you'll be able to tell, just by looking, if the pattern is going to be right for you. In this class, you'll use a tape measure and graph paper to make a schematic of your measurements. Once you have your schematic, we'll teach you how to compare it to pattern schematics to determine if the end result will be flattering on your body. You'll also be able to quickly see what adjustments will need to be made to a pattern to get a perfect fit. What more could you want!
