Dear Tom...

The "urgent immediacy" of this note is twofold:

  1. The throbbing financial needs of those who have, literally, lost "everything," in Hurricane Helene (Milton is en route), and...
  2. The historically unprecedented need for the entire body of Christ in America to genuinely seek the Lord, without partisanship or prejudice, then show up to vote accordingly.

The financial needs of the flood victims obviously come first, by necessity, but please don't set aside the needs of our nation. (Below the next section of missional bullet-points, you'll find an assistance-link I can personally vouch for to be 100% trustworthy.)

In this season, it almost doesn't seem right to look so "happy," but, ultimately (key word), there is always joy on the journey. Emotions and the guilt thereof can be a weird thing. For example, two days ago, we had a death in our extended family. Will neighbors come to their aid? Their grief counts just as much as anyone's. (Please, Jesus, help us to always manifest Your heart of compassion in all things, for all people.)

The last four days on the (prayer) campaign trail

Boots-on-the-ground in 21 different electoral battlegrounds,12 different states, prayerwalking into the wee hours, praying personally with candidates along the way. Pampered Americans such as ourselves might call a mission like this arduous, even a tiny bit sacrificial. But we know better...

Ultimately, there is no greater joy than obeying the Lord, whether in good times or bad. Full stop. That said, my goal this morning is not to talk about us or our mission, but for for the sake of communicative continuity, a few bullet-points of explanation are in order:

  • The election is less than a month away. I issued a heads' up for 70 days of set-aside prayer over six weeks ago, and many have written since, wondering what happened to my promised "prayer and action" points...
  • They're not coming. For two reasons, both of which I'll be happy to talk more about after Election Day. Until then, let this suffice:
  • Reason #1: I bristle at the arrogant presumptuousness of so many of today's supposed "prophets" who constantly dole out marching orders to their "followers" almost as if nobody else knows how to pray and fast except them.
  • Reason #2: My personal health, my momentary light affliction, or "MLA," as I refer to it, has been significantly less momentary and a little less light of late. We've had to reschedule and postpone a few legs of our Battlegrounds 2024 prayer-campaign because of the medical musical chairs I've been playing with too many "specialists." That's why we're scrambling at the edge of our ability right now--playing catch-up.
  • Ironically, throughout the summer, I'd felt this same 70-day pre-election timeframe was supposed to mark the implementation of a long-overdue proactive fundraising function . Truth be told, just trying to keep up with constant-and-confidential, behind-the-scenes "pastoral" stuff with elected officials, while advancing the ball even a little bit on the ground has been more than I could handle in this season (hence the need for fundraising/staffing). We'll get there soon enough.

ALSO IN THE NEWS: Today or tomorrow, we will likely be with this man, NC gubernatorial candidate, Mark Robinson. Recent news has alleged some very disconcerting online behavior on his part, all of which he has heretofore denied. Few in his own camp are convinced, thus distancing themselves. If he is telling the truth, he needs to be 100% exonerated, and the culprits of this smear must be exposed immediately. However, if, on the other hand, he's denying actual events, then he needs to come clean and repent immediately. Lord, please give us clear discernment and wisdom when we pray, hands-on, for this brother in these unique circumstances.

This is a picture from Greene County, TN, bordering North Carolina. They haven't received the same press as other regions, but they've been hit just as hard. I have friends in virtually every part of the devastation nationwide, including pastors who still don't even know how many people in their own flocks are alive or dead. It's beyond thinking. Below is some info about some long-time friends whose ministry is based on "higher ground" in Greene County. They need help, a lot of it. If you don't already have a trustworthy conduit to the ground-game, may I humbly suggest our friends, Leon and Paula Hoover (and their "Mountain People" ministry).

This is a screen-grab from their site. I couldn't have said it better myself.

This video is from this morning, showing the accelerating results initial giving has already underwritten by faith, and where 100% of our giving is going. (harvesttimeencounters.com)

Support our work

As a grass roots, across-the-country/across-the-aisle mission, we do not follow the bigger-is-always-better fund-raising mantra of many non-profits. Neither do we rely on any downstream-construct of tithe-based support. 100% of our funding is via the Spirit-led generosity of friends like you. Thank you!
