June 2025

Dear preachers,

One of the longtime goals of the Proclamation Project has been to create an online space where preachers could find and share resources that are particularly relevant to Disciples preaching. Well, I am delighted to tell you that it's here! Our new online Resource Library is live and ready for you.

You'll find articles, stories, sermon series, keynote videos, and more. You can search by keyword or topic. You can also submit a resource that you've found helpful, or something you've created that you're willing to share. It's an ongoing work in progress and I hope it will be a meaningful way for us to support each other in our work.

Also (so many exciting things to share this month!) registration is now open for the 2025 Disciples Preaching Retreat! Casey Sigmon will be our keynoter, Jonli Tunstall is returning as our music leader, and we're working on a powerhouse lineup of preachers. I can't wait to see you in Arizona in November. Get all the info here.

And finally, will you be at General Assembly? Check out the proclamation track during the education program -- Matt Skinner (who you might know from the Sermon Brainwave podcast) will be offering one of the keynotes on Monday. I'll be leading a workshop on Tuesday, and there are lots of other good opportunities to learn and connect. Plus, if you have some lay leaders coming to GA, encourage them to attend the Empowering Congregational Leaders pre-event on Friday, July 11. More on all things GA here.

The gospel good news matters. Thank you for doing what you do.

Preaching Resource Library

The Disciples Preaching Resource Library includes sermon series materials, articles from Disciples scholars, keynote addresses, full sermons, and rich reflections on the preaching life from voices across our tradition. Whether you're planning for the next liturgical season, exploring your call to preach, or seeking inspiration from fellow Disciples, you'll find resources here to support you as you proclaim the good news.

You can browse the library by type of resource or search for topic, keyword, author, and more. You can also submit resources that you've found helpful to share with other preachers.

Below are just a few of the resources you'll find currently in the library. New resources will be added, so check back often.

From the Resource Library:

Living Generously: A Sermon Series

Whether you preach on generosity year round or in a particular season, the materials in this resource, developed in collaboration with the Center for Faith and Giving, can help. You’ll find four focus texts with exegetical commentary and liturgy resources to prompt sermon preparation.

From the Resource Library:

Hilarity Sunday

“Y’all ever hear of Holy Hilarity Sunday?” I asked. The Board returned skeptical glares. “Basically, we’ll make worship on the Sunday after Easter fun and funny. Maybe give visitors reasons to return?” They agreed, provided I did most of the work.

From the Resource Library:

A Bibliography of Disciples Preaching Scholarship

This bibliography contains entries for most of the major books written by Disciples scholars of preaching in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

From the Resource Library:

The Sound of the Genuine

Recorded at the 2024 Disciples Preaching Retreat, this keynote from Dr. Frank A. Thomas offers reflections on the state of preaching today. Dr. Thomas challenges preachers to be honest and vulnerable with ourselves and in our preaching.

From the Resource Library:

Preaching from Organic Intelligence in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Millions of people use generative AI daily. They (we) may not be forthright about our use of it, but the statistics don’t lie.

We are living and preaching during the rise of the chatbots.

Coming up: Preacher Book Club

Get started on our next read: Preaching God's Grand Drama: A Biblical-Theological Approach, by Ahmi Lee.

We will meet online in September to discuss the book.

Stay turned for details.
