GEMILUTH CHASSODIM NEWSLETTER
ON THE TEMPLE CALENDAR

For This Week of July 30, 2021

From the desk of Rabbi Siroty

Dear Congregants,

We have enjoyed these last few months with the freedom of meeting with friends and eating wonderful Shabbat dinners at the Temple, but with the Delta variant so rampant in the United States, and especially here in Louisiana, Michael Bindursky, Dr. Stephen Katz and I have decided to take a hiatus on meeting in person at the Temple for the next month.  We are hopeful that our High Holy Day services will be in person, with everyone wearing masks and properly social distancing from one another.

We have been so fortunate thus far with minimal COVID within our congregation, let us continue to keep it that way by erring on the side of caution.

I look forward to seeing everyone again online for services, and back in person very soon.

L’shalom,

Rabbi Cantor Raina Siroty

This Weeks Torah Portion

And if you do obey these rules and observe them carefully, the Eternal your God will maintain faithfully for you the covenant made on oath with your fathers. -
Deuteronomy 7:12–11:25

Summary:

  • Moses tells the Israelites that if they follow God's laws, the nations who now dwell across the Jordan River will not harm them. (7:12–26)

  • Moses reminds the people of the virtues of keeping God's commandments. He also tells them that they will dispossess those who now live in the Land only because they are idolatrous, not because the Israelites are uncommonly virtuous. Thereupon, Moses reviews all of the trespasses of the Israelites against God. (8:1–10:11)

  • Moses says that the Land of Israel will overflow with milk and honey if the people obey God's commandments and teach them to their children. (10:12–11:25)

IF YOU WOULD LIKE ANYTHING ADDED
TO OUR BULLETIN or ANNOUNCEMENTS,
PLEASE LET THE RABBI KNOW by WEDNESDAY EACH WEEK.

HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 is to guarantee patient privacy, which is good for the patient because it protects their confidentiality, but not very helpful when the Temple is trying to find patients. Please do not assume that we know you are in the hospital or that the Chaplains Office has contacted the Temple or the Rabbi, even if a chaplain has visited you. PLEASE, I want to be able to visit you. I want to be able to offer you the solace and perspective of our tradition. The Temple wants to let you know that we care, but that can only happen when we know where you are.

Thank you,

Rabbi Raina Siroty
